My respectable bear and Rasbo (pic added)
« on: August 26, 2011, 06:53:55 AM »
I went hunting yesterday and and wound up getting what I would consider a respectable male bear. It started out by me getting out at first light and putting the boots to the ground. After about four hours of hunting I ran into this bear. I looked at him to make sure he was a decent size and had no cubs. I took my shot and he dropped like a bag of potato's. He did wiggle just for a moment and I have known of bears getting up and escaping so I drilled a second round into him.

This is where the day got interesting. I put out a call to three people for help and one showed up. It was, Rasbo to the rescue. We worked hard to get the bear to the rigs and it was getting pretty warm out. When we got to the rigs, I realized that I had lost my keys somewhere during the drag. We used Jim's rig and struggled to get this bear loaded. It was either a heavy bear or we are getting old, I think maybe a combination of both. Jim drove me and my bear into town, showed the guys at my shop a quick view and then off to the taxidermist we went. Jim also drove me home to find spare keys but low and behold they were in my locked car. (DANG) We wound up working until the evening breaking into my car to get into it without busting out a window up in the hills.

I opened up the bears stomach and it was just full of berries. The taxidermist scale would not go up enough to weigh the bear but he said conservatively it would go 300 pounds plus. He was going to weigh it as he dismembered it and get me a close weight on it. I should know later today when I pick up the meat for my local meat shop to process.

I truly want to thank Rasbo (Jim) for all of his help. Jim is a stand up guy and a true friend in need.

The guy in the picture is Rasbo. The pics are from my cell phone, my good camera was locked in my car (DANG)

Nicely done, you guys are so lucky to keep finding pistols on the ground where bears are or have been.

Great bear, and another great story of how there are just some damned fine people on this site who are willing to help each other out.  I wouldn't have guessed it would be Rasbo, but hey, who knows! :chuckle:  Hope you know I'm just joshing you Rasbo.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
