Sighting in Bushnell Elite 6500 with DOA reticle

Attempted to sight in my new .270 savage today topped with a Bushnell elite 6500 that has the DOA reticle.  The manual says in order for the reticle to work properly  you should zero it in at 100 yards on 20 power.  I attempted to do this and had a dead solid rest.  For some reason  the bullets would not group at all, i was not flinching one bit.  One shot would be 8 inches high, the next one 6 inches lower then to the right.  This is a brand new gun.  What got me was i thought maybe the magnification was screwy so i dropped it back to 9 power and was putting them right around the bullseye. 

Anyone else on here have this scope and experienced the same problem?  I was also shooting remington corelokt bullets through it. I wouldn't think changing the magnification would cause that big of a change in where the bullets were hitting.

That seems very weird. If something was loose then you would not be able to get a group at all. Don't know what to tell ya.

that is a possibility since you grouped at a lower power. Or another bushnell crapping out on another unsuspecting shooter.

loose scope mount that settled into place when you adjusted the power?

If the parallax is adjustable, was it set correctly

how far away were ya ... I always shoot my guns in on 6 to 9 power @ 100 yrds ...have the same scope never had a problem....when shooting longer distances I always shoot the lowest power that I can but can still make my target out at ..because it makes you concentrate on the target better as to where if you had it on 20 power you would see the target really well thinking your holding dead center but are actually moving and it could make ya jerk the trigger ...know what I mean ....its just like seeing something really close thinking you can not miss and pull up fast and shoot ...thats why guys miss at close range ...I personally would rather shoot at stuff over 200 yrds than at something at 10 ft ...you do not get as excited .... did that all make sense

The side focus parallax was set to the proper distance.  It's quite obvious actually with this scope when it isn't set to the right distance because it is blurry. On anoter note, I shot a 1 inch group (4 shots) at 100 yards.  My dad shot it and shot in the same spot.  At 200 yards we couldn't come close to grouping, it was throwing them all over the place.  Quite sure we narrowed the problem down and think it is an issue with the magnification and the push-pull turrets and locking them in place.

I am attaching a link that may help understand the difference between focus and parallax. Just because the image is clear does not mean it is parallax adjusted.
