We saw a Moose yesterday in the Methow
« on: August 28, 2011, 07:49:19 PM »
So we saw a stray young bull in an area in the Methow near Winthrop. What's the word on these animals out here? I have been hunting and playing in the Methow for over 20 years and thought I have seen everything. Sorry no pic's but we were inside 40 yards and there is zero doubt.

The moose are expanding their range in  Washington and I wish the game department would give out more permits.

:yeah: About 5 years ago I was hunting for deer just outside of Winthrop and had young bull moose come within 10 yards - had to stand up to let him know I was there so he didn't walk over the top of me.  He stood up real tall, bobbed his head back and forth a bit while he looked me over for a few seconds (seemed like an hour at the time).  Then he turned tail and took off around the clearing.  Got the heart pumping to say the least - pretty awesome experience.

That's pretty cool. Maybe in future years there will be more moose tags...

Two turkey seasons ago  I had two cows, a calf, and bull walk within 50 yards of me and my buddy.  I was gutting my bird 10 minutes after I had shot it and we heard these heavy foot falls coming towards us...looked out into the woods and all we could see were legs BIG LEGS.  First the cow, then the calf followed by another cow.  Then we heard what sounded like a freight train mowing down small trees and saw the bull tearing ass away from us (guess he winded us).  The first cow turned and faced us while the other and calf slid by her and walked off.

Pretty cool, but I will admit that I was a bit worried when the cow turned to face us as if she was going to charge.  I easily agreed to hold my buddies 357 while he grabbed his camera.

At 40 yards they are BIG.

Really, more permits. No wonder that Two Socks the wolf has to prey on livestock. :chuckle:
