Port Gamble - Archery Deer
« on: August 29, 2011, 11:07:49 AM »

I responded to an ad from a disabled man in a wheelchair that got a key to hunt in Port Gamble in Jefferson County.  I guess he has some motorized scooter that takes him most anywhere he wants to go.   I know nothing about the area or the quality of deer.   I wont be hunting, and dont even hunt archery, but I would like to know if anybody knows a place to go within the gated areas.  Is it crowded with people?  How hard is it to get that key?   Any info would be much appreciated as I would like to get this old guy a deer!   I think he may be just as happy with a doe!

Port Gamble is actually in Kitsap County at the north end. If you are talking about Pope resources land right next to Port Gamble, look online about the Port Gamble block. Last I knew it was posted no hunting. Lots of people use that area for mountain biking and other non hunting outdoor activities. Near as I can tell they changed to no hunting somewhere around 2009. However, as stated check Pope Resources online and look up the Port Gamble block info. there are maps for the area there as well.

I used to work for them. That whole block is closed to hunting. Bad idea to be hunting in there.

I believe the guy told me wrong initially, it is Hood Canal Tree Farm.  The office administrator sent me maps of the areas.  I guess he has a key to gate T10.  Its off of Highway 104 and then down South Point Road   It is walk in only to the public, but he won a raffle to be able to drive in there.   I am either going to walk while he rides his electric scooter or he wants to put the scooter in the back of my truck while I drive.   :dunno:  Looks like the area that we have vehicular access to isnt too remote.  Most places you can get to by walking no more than 2 miles.  Does anybody know this particular area?   Thanks

Don't know the area, but good for you!  Thanks for making the effort to take someone out hunting.
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
