Doesn't anyone think it's weird the one guy has an assault rifle and a bugle?  I guess it must be their insurance plan.

Wow
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

That's a good point, it doesn't look like either one of them has a bow.  Sounding like rutting elk would likely spark the attention of a cat trying to pick off a calf in all the commotion.

guy with the pistol has a bow in his left hand.  Calling in elk occasionally calls in cats (in the NE probably wolves too).

Probably not illegal unless he holds an archery elk OR deer tag in the area, could be the start of a whole new thread regarding hunting with someone with a rifle, for bear, cougar, etc, during archery season.

That wouldn't be illegal either. Just because you have an archery deer or elk tag means you can't hunt bears or cougars with a rifle?

I would agree from a common sense standpoint but it has been debated before, if he holds an archery elk tag then the prima facia evidence supports he is hunting elk.  The fact his buddy has a bow and he has a call supports that he is archery hunting. Not sure where a SBR falls in the regs, is it a handgun for protection or a rifle?

Per the regs - It is unlawful for any person to carry or have in his possession any firearm while in the field archery hunting, during an archery season specified for that area, except for modern handguns carried for personal protection Modern handguns cannot be used to hunt big game or dispatch wounded big game during an archery, big game hunting season
