Seen a cam and the owner would probably think it was suspicious that I was taking a picture of it and all the natural resource damage.

The cam was .2 miles off the 1141 trail between Ironstone and Shellrock in GMU 356 in late September.

Yeah, I'm still wondering what the resource damage comment is all about.  Naches, are you saying that screwing a cam bracket into a tree is considered "resource damage"?  If so, is that against some kind of a regulation that we ought to know about?

I'm puzzled...all these comments about people stealing cameras.

Do you fellas not use lock boxes?

I own two brands- Browning and Primos. Both brands have lock boxes and cables (sold separately). The lock boxes have the capability to drive two big carriage bolts through them and into a tree. Not many folks are packing a hacksaw into the woods, or are energetic enough to do the tree surgery needed to steal a camera in a lock box.

I figure its worth $23 to secure a $150 camera...

I'm gonna bet there is a salt lick with a huge hole in the ground that the critters dug out getting to the salt that leached into the soil....

In a riparian area. Also these guys cut shooting lanes, cut trail, and freshly blazed the trail. Not to mention have a tree stand bolted to the tree as well.

Is there a law against bolting things to trees? I am seriously asking, I've never heard of such thing. It is entirely possible that I just never saw it.... one could say that I am stumped. (Pun intended)

I wouldn't be happy to find something bolted to one of my trees. If you're unsure you could call and ask who ever manages the land.

Where I came from we built tree stands with screws, nails, and lag bolts etc. we would use the stands year after year. It did not seem to kill or hurt the trees. We used screw in tree steps too. We never really gave it a second thought. I think it is a little bit over the top to think that a couple lag bolts in a tree will kill it.

My dad had a small wood lot in Minnesota and we used screw in tree steps, we did not worry about it and I don't think we killed any trees.

I have a tree stand on a 5 acre piece I own. It is nailed in there with 8" spikes. It's been there for about 6 or 7 years. No problems so far.

Is there a law regarding this?
