A little Dilemma
« on: August 30, 2011, 02:44:33 PM »
Ok so i bought a bow and plan on going elk hunting with it this year for the first time. Now what i have been pondering over for the last month or so is should i buy an archery deer tag. I have hunted modern rifle deer for the last 3 years with my dad and a good family friend. Everyone i hunt deer with with hunts modern so i would kinda be odd man out and i have never hunted for blacktail with a bow so i dont want to eat tag soup this year but i want to get a deer on the ground. What would you guys do?

Buy the modern tag and use your bow.
I value my time spent with my hunting partners.  My choice of weapon would not change my choice of hunting partners.

I say rifle for deer and hunt with your dad and family friends.  If you love your archery elk hunt this year, try archery for both in '12.   :twocents:

I like 6x6's idea, get the modern tag and show your buds who has a set - use the bow. Nice!

Thats the exact reason I switched from Bow to Modern and I've never regretted it. Being able to build life long memories beats hunting by yourself by  "a longshot"

Yeah. With a modern rifle tag you can use a bow or muzzleloader if you want.
Aim small, miss small.

If you have time, go bow hunting; then go to the rifle camp with the family and be the photogragher, scout or camp cook.  :cue:

Yes smitty u can use either a bow, rifle, or muzzy in a modern season because they are the same or lower class of weaponry but still gotta wear orange. But wth bow season u can only use bow, muzzy only use muzzy.

:yeah:    Took the words right out of my mouth. Sometimes it's just as much fun or even more fun to go along just as a "helper".

I haven't hunted blacktail with a bow, so take this advice for what it is worth.  Do a lot of scouting and find some feeding and bedding areas and the trails between them.  Then get set-up in  a ground blind or a tree stand and wait. :twocents:

I am kinda lost on this one  :chuckle: no problem using a bow during rifle season but you have way more days to hunt on a bow tag  :twocents:

Rifle season is better than bow season because of when the rut occurs.  Some archery guys take advantage of that and buy the rifle tag but hunt with their bow.

I know that if I have a rifle tag I can hunt the rifle season with a bow but since I have a rifle tag can I hunt during the bow season with my bow?
