Sliders Zebra
« on: June 24, 2008, 07:29:14 AM »
This is a Zebra I took at Tsepe Safari's R.S.A. He is one of a kind with the Black on his cheeks!!! I names him the Swarts Stallion and will do a Pedestal Mount to look like a Chess Piece. The PH is Rollin Liebenberg.

Nice pictue. I don't think zebra would be near the top of the list on animals I want to get in Africa. But to each is own.

Looks like you had a hell of a good hunt.  I can't wait to go.... I've had 2 false starts.  If things work out Aug 09 for me.

Skyvalhunter a Zebra is one of the hardest animals in Africa to get. They are VERY weary. Some people make 3 or 4 trips to get one!!! They are a highly prized trophy!!!

Slider -

I've heard that most (if not all) of the meat goes to the local people in Africa, is that true? Did you get to sample any of it while you were there? If so, what did it remind you of?

Gobble we had loin steakes for dinner nightly of the animals harvested. They were prepared on a grill with coals from the fire. Kudu,Zebra,Gemsbuck,Red Hardebeest,Black Wildebeest,Springbok,Blesbok. My favorite was Gemsbok. It is hard to descibe the taste but some are a bit sweeter than others. They have the texture of our deer and elk.And it is also very lean meat. Cobus Moutan(Tshepe Safari's)the Outfitter is a very generous man. He donates the remainder of the meat to the poor or the church. As a last resort it is sold at the market.

I have a couple buddies who claim that hunting Zebra was the most challenging of the plains game they hunted.  Very wary and very well camo-ed in the brush.

Thanks for the post. I'm jealous. Had you been to RSA before? What does a trip like that run as far as total cost?

Getting a zebra may very difficult. I have 2 friends of mine that went over there and both got zebra's. I am just saying it's a personal preference on what you take there or what packages you get or place you hunt.

Cost is going to be very dependant on what you want to hunt and your taxidermy choices.  With recent airline price increases I'm somewhat out of the loop but based on what I've seen cost for say 6 critters with taxidermy, airfare, etc your probably talking around 15K$ give or take.  A lot of variables... lenght of hunt, particular animals hunted, # of animals, type of mount, type of hunt, etc.
