Tribal Hunting.
« on: September 01, 2011, 02:18:09 PM »
Not sure if any of you have seen what the actual hunting regs for the tribe look like but here ya go. It just blows my mind. And the other thing I just found out that they can hunt non tribal land all the way to Canada.

http://nrd.colvilletribes.com/2011/2011-6-6/2011_Final_Member_Hunting_Regulations_4_19_11.pdf

Check out page 14 that is the deer regs.. June 1 - Dec 31, 2 per day daily limit, no possession limit.

Not sure if how many people actually knew this or not thought it might be interesting to hear about for those of you that did not know.
If there is a bass in it I will catch it.

And the other thing I just found out that they can hunt non tribal land all the way to Canada.

Thoses are their conceded land which is land they say thier ancestors hunted back 200+ years ago. That is why the Yakama's can hunt the Clockium. Here is a map of Ceeded lands of the Indian Treaty of 1855.http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/tribal/wa_tribal_ceeded_lands.pdf I think the Colville tribe has a different Treaty with the State.

They have limit in the Northern half of the rez. It is 2 per day and only 3 for the whole season.
Also it has a different season it is shorter.
This is what I find odd in the Hunting Regs:
They can use artifical light while hunting Skunks? :puke:
They can hunt Elk with Shotguns.
No bag limit on Black Bear, Grouse and Turkey on all the South Half of the Rez?
I think they manage there animals better than other tribes around the Northwest.

what about it blows your mind? they can shoot more than one deer? longer seasons? in my opinion thier land is far richer with wildlife than most state land... thier managment practices work. oh and the north half was actually thier rez until the gov. found gold around republic and took it back.

hmm I didn't know that I wasn't saying it as a bad thing it was odd to me. It really threw me about the skunks thou.
I do like that they can kill as many badgers as they want and that they still use dogs to hunt Cougars.

One thing to keep in mind... The loose rules the tribes have may also be our savior when it comes to predator issues like wolves. the tribes are not subject to the bunny huggers like the rest of the state... all they have to do is petition the feds... And i might ad that they have more pull with the feds then our sorry  :ass:

For me it was something new, I had heard a little about the regs for the tribe but never really seen it. Then I saw that and was just amazed that they would have any animals left, not sure how they do it. I recently moved  here and live very close to the tribe so it was news to me. From the sound of every one this is topic that has been brought up a few times  :dunno:

As for animals in the 6 months i have been here I can say i have only seen about 4 deer out there. But I am not out really looking for them.

If there is a bass in it I will catch it.
