Blazer vanes....
« on: June 24, 2008, 03:05:49 PM »
Ok bow tuning Guru's.  I just refletched my Goldtip 5575's at 29 1/2 length that I shoot through my Bowtech Patriot VFT solocam set at 67 lbs with 3 fletch Blazers.  Paper tuned them to shoot perfectly at 10' and 20' through paper, 125gr field points.  Shooting field points, groups are very tight at all ranges out to 50 yards.  Have shot maybe 60 shots when I start to notice the the orange tiger striping is getting a smudge line through it on the underside of the inner fletch, I shoot cock feather up of course.  So I say to myself, self your getting contact with your rest.  I shoot a TT shaky hunter.  So I powdered the arrow rest, and nothing, no powder left on the fletch's.  OK, so I look real close and it looks as if maybe the inner fletch may be contacting one of the bus cables ever so slightly.  I powder the cables.  Shoot and nothing.  Grab a different set of newly fletched arrows and shoot about 20 shots and now no smudging of the fletches???????  What the hell is going on?  No I was not torquing my bow, as my groups with the first three arrows which showed smudging and the groups of the new three which do not have not changed in POI.  Screw on my broadheads and groups are perfect and paper tune is still correct.

Anyone else shoot these tiger striped fletch?  Is the black tiger striping weak and just rubbing off when pulling arrows?  That doesn't make sense as they are all smudging the same way?   Bow is shooting fine and I am very happy with it and the arrows, but can't figure out what the heck is happening?
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

Are you sure the center shot on your bow is correct?
What size arrows were the other 20?

Can you post a picture of your setup?

I don't have a picture available of my set-up, at least not a close up.  My setup was in a elk picture on a thread from last year, but you couldn't tell much from that.  Yes, centershot is correct.  Did you have to switch your cables to the outside of the guard on your guardian?  It's happening on all of the first three arrows and none of the second three and they are all of the same dozen purchased, 5575's goldtips, I think they are the Hunter XT's which are +/- .003 straightness.

could be from arrow contact at the target? i just baught a new dozen arrows and already have a couple arrows with smudges but i can hear the arrow contact at the target so i know thats what caused it.

I'm with Bankwalker.  Maybe your field points are whizzing by the fletch at the target and making the mark...?

Yeah, it may be from arrow contact at the target, last night I shot broadheads again and shaved a fletch off  :bash: at forthy yards shooting a group.  Anyway, thanks for the help guys, bow is shooting lights out, and I couldn't be happier, just was wondering what was causing the damn streak.
