Ziplock bag for scent control, a must have!!!
« on: September 02, 2011, 10:35:07 AM »
My buddy and I were in Idaho last night elk hunting, we hiked into an area we had seen the herd in the morning so we were very careful not to leave our scent by going to the bathroom anywhere near it.  Well my buddy took it to the extreme and I felt obliged to share it with you...

This is what he tells me via the radio...
Dude I just about s**t my pants, I was climbing the tree and it hit me and I couldn't stop it from coming.  I ran as far away as I could, but I couldn't make it more than 50 yds. away so I busted out a zip lock bag and blew it up.  Then I had to piss so I was transferring the bag back and forth!  it was a mess, I almost lost it running down the hill.

I was set up farther up the hill so I couldn't witness the spectacle, but I was dying laughing!  He then packed the bag filled with crap out of there and buried it.  So never in the woods with out a ziplock bag, 1 gallon seems to work great, in case you just gotta go!

Jeez!  I'm not sure I would go to that level.  I've taken a couple animals over the years when I was in the process of going #2.  Not sure how much that really bothers them.  The ones I got did not seem to care.  Great story bro...

thanks for the story, a good laugh always starts the day off well. :chuckle: he might want to call ziplock & tell them how thier product saved the day. a prime example of how versitile it is.

I was shocked when he told me, you did what?!?! I told him in times like that it's ok, but he is hard core and didn't wanna ruin the hunt.  I don't think they care either, just don't do it below your tree stand.  I just wish I could have seen him running down the road trying not crap himself and pulling out a ziploc  in the process and some how aiming.  I was impressed he didn't miss.

Too funny!  One gallon, zip freezer bags and unscented baby wipes are worth their weight in gold in the woods.

Very funny.... on a serious side... dude!  get some large size doggy biodegradeable bags!   Don't like leaving any non degradable stuff behind!

Yeah it wasn't on purpose, he didn't take the zip lock out there to poop in, he was lucky he had it left over from lunch,  he just was scared he would blow the hunt so he decided to use it as a toilet.

I think I will just risk it.   When it is time to go, I feel I have packed long enough.  Beside taking a healthy dump in the great outdoors is part of hunting.  At least until someone looks at you through their binos and see's you have tail!

Have to admit I am giggling over the thought of your buddy going to extremes.  Good to have partner who takes his hunting seriously!
