Lingcod fishing to close Sept. 3
seaward of 124°30 in Marine Area 2
Action: It is unlawful to fish for, retain, or possess lingcod seaward of 124°30 W. longitude from the Queets River (46°32.31' N. lat.) to Leadbetter Point (46°38.17' N.lat) in Marine Area 2.
Effective date: Sept. 3, 2011.
Species affected: Lingcod.
Location: Marine Area 2.
Reason for action: This rule is intended to protect yelloweye and canary rockfish, two species managed under rebuilding plans by the Pacific Fishery Management Council. The closure will reduce the amount of yelloweye and canary rockfish that are incidentally caught while anglers are targeting lingcod in deeper water where they are more likely to encounter these species.
