Drift Boat Motor Size

Anyone have preferences on the size of motor they use on their DB. Long vs Short Shaft. HP? I've got a 16' Alumaweld Guide Model. Any info would be great.

I have a 16' fishrite,  the maximum mine is rated for is 9.9 hp.   If you have a removable section in your transom you might be able to use a short shaft - other than that I believe a long shaft is required.   If you are planning on running the motor in the river get all the Hp it will handle,  you will need it to buck the current.  In a lake mine tops out at about 6.5 miles per hour per the gps.   Good luck and have fun.

I had a 16 foot Hyde aluminum that I put a long shaft 8hp on. It would go back up river but very slowly. I would recommend a 9.9 2 stroke for the weight.

I got a 16x54 fishcraft and run a 9.9 merc fourstroke on it... it will push me and two guys up at BC no prob but it just takes awhile. Before i got the 9.9 i ran an 8 on it and honestly couldnt tell much difference. I think it has a terminal velocity of like 5mph regardless :chuckle:
