best meal in camp
« on: September 02, 2011, 06:09:45 PM »
So I what is the best meal you have ever eaten in camp? I'm starting this because I just had garlic roasted potatoes, lamb chops, and asparagus. Got to thinking "Folk back at work think I'm roughing it, wonder what they had for diner" lol. Anyway let find out what you all are realy  having in your camps
Now therefore, please take your weapons, your quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me
Genesis 27:3

I may not have alot but what I have I got honest.....

I'd rather be hated for what I am then be loved for what I'm not

Is it me, or are people getting dumber

A buddy and I once gorged on 8 late hatch ruffed grouse fried in butter with onions over a campfire.  They were so tender and juicy, he kept turning on his flashlight because he couldn't believe they were cooked through.  All 16 little half breasts fit in one 10" skillet :)
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Every year when we hunt Mt or Id we race over, throw the wall tent up, throw on the hunting clothes and hurry into the woods. That night we throw weiners in the frying pan on the stove and crack a bottle of the hard stuff. (whole milk.....Shhhhh, wives might hear  :chuckle:) I look forward to that meal above all others. And it's delicious!

I like to do Rosemary Crusted Rack of Lamb with a rice medley grilled veggies and a good bottle of Cab followed by a good cigar. Then a major wash up to get rid of the smells. You gotta have good grub when hunting.  :twocents:

MRE "chicken with salsa" I heat up the main meal the jalepano cheese and the Spanish style rice. Then I make a "bowl" out of the mre bag and mix all of it together. Then I crush up the vegetable crackers over the top and eat it. Then i eat the peanut buttwr m and ms and the cookies for desert. Doesn't get better than that.

Grilled T-bones, fire baked potatoes, green salad, Pendleton whiskey and Dutch oven Peach cobbler for dessert.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Trout right from the stream, wrapped in foil and tossed into a hot bed of coals. It is a nice change of pace from the norm of Mountain House and gorp.
I'd just like to remind everybody that it's about the hunting, not just the killing. In other words, it's about the total experience, the sport itself and the challenge involved. Bowhunting, done right, is a justifiable and honorable pursuit. Done for the wrong reasons, simply chalking up kills and seeking personal glory, it's taking away rather than giving back to a principled way of life that has to be experienced to be understood.
