Complaints about the Rendezvous
« on: September 03, 2011, 10:26:17 PM »
OK, I'm getting complaints, Too expensive, Too hot, don't like the wrist bands, don't like Omak, whatever.
I want them, can't fix them if I don't know what the problem is.
So let me have it.

By the way Omak ain't happening again, back to Cashmere.

We were only there Sat, but had a great time, my only complaint and it's not a big deal was half the auction being held in the dark.  Too hot?  How the heck you going to fix that?   :chuckle:   There was plenty of shade.  I had a great time.  I will say and not to be too harsh but the gentleman doing the reciepts after the auction, why would you need to write down each item on the receipt?  Just write down the lot number.  I was lucky I was third in line, I can only imagine how long the guys at the back were waiting.  Can you let us know how much the auction raised when you have a chance?  Also if you have that much stuff to auction every year you probably should start a little earlier in the day.  Next year I will spend the night, the drive home was pretty late, but that is my issue, not yours.  Had a great time!  Enjoyed the demos.

The auction usually runs late and it is a problem I've tried  to remedy unsuccessfully. The thing is we start it after dinner. I don't want to start it in the middle of the day as that interfers with demos and I don't want to start it at a time when we will have to break for dinner. Just a tight schedule on Saturday.
If you had stayed 'till Sunday you would have seen my demo.
We did have a lot more auction stuff this year then normal and because it consisted largly of estate items we had to keep better records because we have to show each individual items  selling price for tax purposes. The description was a double check with the lot number. With our usual donated items we haven't did that in the past.
Want cooler? Thinking about June.
As for location, Cashmere next year but I have and still am exploring places in Western WA but it is tough one because it is so much more expensive to rent a facility on the west side.

Gotcha.  Hey just curious, why rent a place?  Why not have it at a public campground or someone's field/barn?  Rent a couple of porta johns and have a REAL Rondy?  Just a thought.  Moses Lake?  Ellensburg?  Cle Elum?  There are some nice campgrounds near Ellensburg....if they ever fix the roads?   8)

I really like the idea of a public camp ground
one with a cover to use and alot of camp spaces.

That would be fine with some but a lot of people now expect a full kitchen, ice, hook ups for RVs and a covered area is a must in case it was to rain. Also tables and chairs are important.
Are we spoiled? Well, yes but it is nice.
We have held them at private campgrounds but public presents problems. Oregon holds theirs at a public campground and they can't guarantee you will get a camping spot. People get turned away and I don't want to do that.

I'm with Dave. I liked Omak. Nice, clean showers, shade trees, green grass  (we know why it's green ha ha).  I even liked the arm bands and  paying one time for everything at the check in.  The food was fantastic and I didn't have to cook. What more could you ask for?

Glad to hear the Rondy may be moved to 3rd week of june, not as hot. The thing about Omak is there were no buildings to get out of the heat. I tried chasing the shade but it didn't work for me.
Meals, they were good but in the past you payed for each meal you wanted, not an all or nothing deal. Some people don't eat breakfast or you may want to go to a restaurant for dinner. Your options were limited.
Camping was fine, they charge what they charge can't change that, although it was high, $13. for a tent spot.
Braclets were not necessary,we are a small orginization and don't need braclets period, that was wasted money.
Alot of this could have been avoided if all these items were mentioned in the newsletter. If a person knew ahead of time what things cost you have time to think what you want.
$20.00 admission, was high. We didn't pay anything for the grounds. It cost $10. at the national for 3 days.
My last concern was if a family came it would get really spendy, I only hope we didn't scare new members away. A dad and 2 boys would have cost $90. for food alone for the weekend plus admission, membership renewal, plus raffle tickets.
I guess I just don't like surprises like I use to. Had I known the costs in advance I likely would have spent less. But I support the association so I payed up. It cost me $86. for the weekend and I'm a lifetime member. Enough from me.

Me and both my boy's enjoyed our weekend,The boy's liked helping with the auction. And we did buy a few traps . We are still new to trapping with 1 season under our waders! We need all the advice and demos we can get .I didn't think the food prices were that bad,I didn't like the camping fee but would pay again. We did like Cashmere better as its closer to home 2.5 vs 4.5 hours but we will go anywhere in the state at least once. And we hope you don't change the rondy to June as our weekends are booked with logshow's I vote to keep it the same. Thanks Dan

Personally, I would have chosen the Agriplex at the county fairgrounds between Okanogan and Omak. Much nicer facilities for the rondy. Maybe you tried.
