First Buck with a bow
« on: September 08, 2011, 07:18:26 AM »
Shot this guy last weekend, had trail camera pictures of him but until he was down i didn't know it was the same deer i posted here, it was hard to see the nubs near his bases from the ground, but when we found him we pulled up the pic on our phone and confirmed it was him.

He was way bigger body wise than we thought, and i'm not great at aging deer but i think older than i had thought as well.

Here are the pics, if your wondering the arrow did go enter in front of the shoulder, he was broadside, as i released he rotated and turned slightly towards me, i was worried it would be bad placement, as its only the second deer i've shot with a bow, and i was down hill from him, but thank God he didn't go far, tracked him for about fifty yards, and the last twenty he was bulldozing the ground.

Thanks guys!! yeah i mean i didn't feel bad about where i hit em once i knew he was down quick, but it wasn't ideal, not saying i wouldn't take that shot again, because its bowhunting and the best laid plans can go awry in an instant, however it all worked it out.

And there were a lot of firsts with this buck which is cool. First buck on trail cam that i patterned and shot, first buck with bow, first deer over 200lbs, yada yada yada.

Kinda sad though that my deer season was over in two days, my wife was like, " you scouted all year, shoot just about everyday, and shoot your deer the second day of the season, what are you going to do the rest of the year?" lol

and by pattern i don't mean i knew what he was doing, simply the area he hung out in, we thought he had left since a bear moved into where the trail cam was, but the second morning my dad and i bumped a bigger racked buck, and thought he headed down into this ravine, we pushed through there and when i crossed over to the hillside this buck jumped up and ran, got him stopped and let it fly.

thats a nice buck. I think your trail cam pic would make a good pose for a mount. Regarding your shot and the worry. Looks like it did the job just fine. They can't all hold still and I assume (since I'm without a buck yet) that it gets harder to focus with headgear. Thanks for posting.
