Backwoods Archery Hunt 2011
« on: September 08, 2011, 08:43:44 AM »
By popular request  :chuckle: here is some pics from our recent trip into the woods.
Because of the new job i was only able to hunt the 1-5th.  Although none of us were able to close the deal we managed to have at least 1 good long stalk on does and bucks every day. Cant ask for more than that.

Two in my group were very new to bow hunting so it was very rewarding to watch them get the blood pumping while stalking deer.  I missed a doe at 47 yards by just miss-judging the yardage.  (clean miss).  Looking back i am happy i missed.
I have a multi-season deer tag and i almost shot a doe on opening morning.   :chuckle: i guess i was just wanting to fill my tag, but it worked out just fine.

We did see a TON of bear sign and know of one guy that whacked one up where we were with a bow.  Also saw a billion grouse.
Jumped a good heard of elk on saturday and had one big bull bugle at us.  Pretty cool to see so many animals and sign.

We put a good stalk on two bucks on the last night for about an hour and they gave us the slip after our ambush.
Saw some amazing country and had an amazing time with some great friends.

Good luck to everyone.  Headed to a different area next weekend where I have had my trail camera for a month.   :IBCOOL:

Cool pics and story. You're a lucky man to have a hunting partner for a wife.

That scenery looks familiar! My brother and I were around there last weekend hunting grouse. We may have even crossed paths, we were in a gold Land Rover. Maybe we should have hunted with you, since you saw so many grouse! We didn't see that many. Did see some bear sign, deer sign, and a couple deer. Looks like you all had fun, sorry you missed the deer.
