A warning.
« on: October 06, 2011, 02:16:58 PM »
I was sighting in my new tikka today and the guy next to me shooting a left-handed R700 in 7mm mag hung a case up after firing, I beat on the bolt handle for a minute trying to get it open as did the owner. Eventually the guy got it open and had a big shiny mark on the case head from the extractor and a nasty dimple where the primer flowed back into the bolt...The guy was shooting HornadySuperformance 180gr 7mm Mag. The Remington ammo he was using looked fine after firing with primers only slightly flattened.

I don't know if anyone else has seen any recent issues with Hornady ammo but that one was ugly enough that I thought I would mention it.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

There a several things that can cause what you mentioned other than a issue with the "Factory" ammo.

Hornady had a recall for 06 ammo in superformance because it was loaded to hot.  Maybe it spread to the 7 mm. :yike:

Sure but none of the other 20 or so Remington cases showed any excessive pressure signs...I was pretty impressed as the bolt wasn't locked up at all but the case was stuck hard!

BTW Biggerhammer, I am one of those "sissies" that shoot factory ammo, (I know no one asked about my new gun)....I shot one group today through my new tikka 270 after zeroing. At 100m the group was 5/8" on the longest side, .348 MOA(roughly), not bad for a sissy huh?

just bought some hornady superformance few days ago havent used them yet but its in the 165 gr 30-06 and was wondering if i was affected. been doing some research on the recall but it seems like it affects Lot# 3101052   ITEM # 81153. the ones i bought is a different lot# but same item# so is all superformance in 30-06 item#81153 or am i screwed and need to return them??

I stuck a bolt on a 375 once with the minimum charge listed in the book. Upon exam it was a bad case that was thicker than it should have been....that was fun.

Sissies have every right to own guns, shoot, 270's or tight groups. I'm not saying Sissies are a bad thing, I'm sure if one looks hard enough there can be a good use for one , some place , somewhere. I in my own opinion I have absolutely no use use or desire to even be around one. But that doesn't make Sissies bad people
