Nikon Monarch BDC scope?

Looking into this scope, is the BDC worth it? I can see where it would be useful and also where it would get in the way. opinions?

Hmm. Thats good to know. I can see where it would be handy if needed.  Its going on a .300 WSM so I would definately be able to use the reach with it. As long as it doesnt get in the way. I checked out the nikon charts and its pretty slick.

I have one on my 300 WSM and love it! I don't even see the bdc half the time unless I'm looking to use it  glass is good, light transition is good and last year when I took my bull I ended up having to take the shot almost straight into the sun and it handled that great! I don't think I would have been able to make the shot if I hadn't got that scope be fore the season

I've got the 4x16x50 Nikon Monarch BDC on a Browning Medallion II .325 WSM.  For my eyesight it was the easiest and clearest scope I looked through.

Nikon makes great glass for the money. I have a buddy with the BDC and I personally don't care for the circles. I prefer either the Zeiss Rapid Z-600 or good ole fashion mils.

i got a 4-16x42sf monarch with the bdc  recticle and absolutely love it. i like the bdc circles they help a lot with judging holder although i went to nikons spot on site and got their yardages based off the scope and round, i then went out and shot until i knew where each circle and each top arch and bottom arch are at yardage wise.  i only see the circles when im looking for them otherwise i dont even notice them

crystal clear glass, holds zero great, can take a good bump and not move, good solid dependable glass without having to take out a loan

only bad comment is the flip up scope covers nikon puts on them are crap

I think I will get the BDC. Also, what power are you guys using on your .300 WSM or what power would be an excellent choice?

Ok, I picked up everything today    I ended up getting the Nikon Monarch 14x16 42 in the Mill Dot. I havent looked through the mill dot as cabelas didnt have them and wholesale by me did have them. I had to go into Federal way to find the gun and they had a Mill Dot reticle in stock so I tried it out and looked at the Nikoplex, BDC and Mill Dot all side by side and I have to say that I really liked the Mill Dot. Larger field of view and seems like I will have to practice more (oh dang  ) but far better advantages once you get the calcualations and such down with the mill dot.

we've got a bunch of the nikon bdc's.  They really don't get in the way. The BDC portion is very small. 

I would definately practice with it out to the distances to make sure it's hitting where you want.  they use the open circles for a reason..... so they can cover the impact zone of several cartridges. I would try to work it out so that you can use the upper or lower intersection of the circle so that you can be more accurate rather than just covering half the body with a circle.

Personally I would rather have crosshairs than the bdc. The bdc will get you  Close but if your going for PRECISE long range nothing beats a good scope, turrets and a good ballistic program. I had a coyote special with the bdc on a .223 and while I was hitting a milk jug at 400 yards there was no consistency in the shots. But they all hit the milk jug. If I'm gonna take a shot at ANY animal at tha range I wanna know for sure I can hit em where it counts.

I love it.  Was a 07' shot show run, an uncatalogued gun.  Has an octagon barrel and grade 3 wood. Actually it's much nicer than grade 3, and better than others I've seen in this edition on various calibers.  Bought my son the identical gun...wood almost as nice.  Made him buy the scope though...lol (same scope 4x16x50 Monach)

I have 4 of them never get in the way when shooting I shoot them out to 400 yards at the range and put a note on the side of stock with impact points. I will say this in both the 280's a 270wsm and 300wsm I have them on bullet impact is above crosshair impact.
