I need to get some close ups of that bow on here.  I was thinking that while passing time on the mountain.  Ernie did such an awesome job.  Gorgeous wood.   The zebra limbs are amazing.

Awesome job.  What beautiful, lonely country.  From your FB photos you didn't even look sweaty, so I thought you had an easy hunt this year.  Lol, I was definitely wrong about that.

Congrats Doug on a dandy buck. Great writeup as usual.

You guys are very kind. Thank you!  I'm still trying to beat Mr Hide and Seek buck.   Guess I will have to wait another year.   Now its a season of photography. Maybe I'll get him on film this fall.  I guess you'll all know it when I do.   I'm really looking forward to some moose action now, and then later in the month.  Its too dang hot to chase elk.

I had some really cool things happen this hunt.   I got a new eberstock pack and its AWESOME!  I got the battleship version.  Its really quiet so I could wear my frame pack while hunting.  It fits even better than the daypack does.  Plus I could pack from the spot.  It could also support a heavy load.   It made me think of my Grandfather and Dad packing freight with an old wood pack and straps.   Tough Tough men.  It made me ponder while I was "roughing it" with my Ole Boy Olberto jerky and mountain house and nice sleeping bag, what those boys did.

On my first ascent as I was kissing the ground(very very steep)  trying to mount the ridge, something wenT  flying by my head at mach one, and then another one.  Apparantly some territorial Perriguin falcons.   After several flyby's, they landed and kept chattering at me.  Just as I got on top of the ridge I kicked a blue grouse.  DAMNEDD if that falcon didn't nail it in the air and bring it to the ground.   SO COOL.

Next day...another ridge over I was watching two more of them.  Could be the same birds, but they were very talkative and hunting.  I am sitting there watching one soaring and hunting in my binos.....I was hunkering under that small tree.....the bird was very interested in a ground squirrel that was interested with me....the thing is comeing closer and closer....Damned if he didn't land on my hat.   NOW that was COOL!  Kinda freaky, but COOL.
To me, all the other things that happen on a hunt like these add up to at least just as important as the kill.  :twocents: Thanks for the adventure!

Thanks for taking us with you on your adventure Bone the write-up, and pictures were fantastic.  A well deserved trophy for the amount of time you spend in that country I just wonder how you convince the misses to let you go back that far alone.  Im thinking a several million dollar life insurance policy is sitting around the house somewhere ;)
