90 grains of retumbo, 180 grain Nosler Happy with performance.
« on: September 11, 2011, 03:15:28 PM »
Went to the 200 yard range my 300 rum today. There was hardly any drop. I had some shots in the 1 inch bullseye.
All were in a couple of inches of each other. That 1 inch bullseye looked awfully small from 200 yards.

Do you have a chrony? Just curious what speed you are getting?

Yes I have a chronograph, but it is still in the box. When I was at the range, I was told it wouldn't work there because of the lighting.
I should be getting around 3200-3250 feet per second. As you are aware, the BC is .505

I am going to be trying out the 200 grain Accubonds soon with Retumbo..

For me, the RUM should be fed some big bullets. 180 being the lowest. with all these REALLY high BC bullets especially when you get to 200, you might as well take advantage of it and feed it some bigger pills.

FYI.. According to Nosler:

91 Grains (min start) of Retumbo for a 200 grain Accubond = 3050 FPS out of 26" barrel.. this also had the best accuracy.

Max Grains = 95

Either bullet is great, but the 200 grain gives you a BC  = 0.588 vs. .507 in the 180

For me I have 3 bullets for the RUM and ALL seem to have the same velocity, POI is negligable and have 1K capability:

200 Grain Barnes TTSX 0.546 BC
200 Grain Nosler Accubond 0.588 BC
210 Grain Berger VLD 0.631 BC

Depending on the animal, one of the 3 get used.

use your sky screens and try to keep it out of the sun, the chrony will work.
