Scope for 45-70

Alot of you have some good insight to what is out there in the market.  I remember seeing it in ad or something about a scope for the Marlin 1895GS stainless lever rifle short barrel.  It was designed with the new bullets in mind to assist accuracy out to 200 yards.  Anyone have one or know what I might have seen.  Also looking for versatility, probably and over the sights mount.  Also one last thing, the fold down sights attached to gun suck in my thoughts, what type of open sights are better to utilize on the short brush gun? Maybe I wouldn't even get a scope then.  Just need something that is durable and won't move once affixed.  Thanks Mike

My Marlin 336 came with the semi-buckhorn rear site with the quick adjust detented ramp (just like the site shown in the cabelas link above).  This allows for quick field adjustments but I worry about it getting bumped and moving or the ramp falling out in the bushes.  The site itself is easy to acquire and put on target quickly, but I’d rather have a screw adjustment that would hold in place better. 

I can’t see an advantage to a fold down site unless you have a close fit scope and you take it on and off a lot.

I have a forward mounted leupold 2.5 power scout scope on mine and the AO ghost site. I love this set up.

I'm going to be outfitting my 1895GG with the XS ghost rings next week, I like the looks of the cabela's set up but I haven't seen that great of reviews on it.  I will probably just stick with the peephole sight and just take the scoped '06 when I'm in an area where I need to reach out and touch something.

So the site you use is a peep site?  Like that ideal....  Makes me remember the old M-16 firing days on the range and I was really accurate with it...  AO Ghost , I'm going to look it up on the net.  Easy to install or requires a gun smith?

That is the one I have as well but with the scope and quick release mounts.

I use a WWG Ghost Ring Sight on my .444 Marlin along with a Leupold FX-II 2.5x28 Scout Scope with a Post & Duplex Reticle in QD Rings mounted in a XS Lever Scout Rail Mount.



Picture is from when I used a Burris 2.75x20 Scout Scope with Heavy Duplex.
I personally prefer the Leupold as it's clearer and brighter (to my eyes) and the Post & Duplex reticle is my favorite.
