Sight In my T/C .50 cal
« on: September 12, 2011, 09:48:58 AM »
I am sighting in my 1973 T/C .50.

I notice that, as I shoot T/C maxi hunters (320 grain) that I have great difficulty hitting the target after shooting several rounds.

It would seem so far that I can get good groups with 80 grains of Pyrodex RS but am conerned that that load won't be good enough on elk. When I go up to 90 grains and 100grains my rounds won't group.

The Pyrodex is about 3 years old and has been kept in a cool dry spot the whole time.

Would appreciate some suggestions.

Also, how often should I clean the bore at the range?

Should I shoot a few rounds and let the barrel cool considerably before shooting again.

Thanks in advance.

Blake

80 grains is plenty with that size bullet. Be sure to use bore butter. When target practicing with any of my muzzleloaders I always use one "spit" patch between shots. It seems to keep my groups consistent all day long without having to have a shiny barrel between shots.

80gr is fine. The Maxi hunters are Pre-Lubed NO bore butter is needed nor is it recommended. Bore Butter was and is used to season a barrel, your TC barrel does not need seasoning.
Smoke em when ya see em!
