Poll: Leaving treestands

Was walking around on the eastside yesterday and I happened across 4 treestands all about a mile from eachother. They were the expensive folding metal ones, not hand fabricated wooden stands. Any thoughts?

yeah I wouldnt either. One of these stands had steak bones or similar in a small pile about 25 yards in front of it which leads me to believe that someones not playing by the rules if they're going after predators

Mine's such a pain to hang that I usually leave it, it's still there from last august.

we would leave them in for the season.  but that was with a huge bicycle lock through them and around the tree cuz they were the climbing type.

Yeah I can see it if they're locked to the tree but none of the ones I saw were.. In my mind if I had scouted out some bucks and got there at first light to find someone in my stand then I would be quite dissapointed... but the law is what it is.

I hunt public land and no way in hell. Made that mistake one time and it cost me a stand...

and that was a lock on... 25 feet up... with screw in pegs... with the first 6-7 foot of pegs removed and the stand locked with a logging chain and padlock!

That means the SOB returned with a buddy to lift him up, a ladder, or a hand full of pegs... oh...and BOLT cutters!

Thats determination! But theres lots of people that will do it for a 200-350$ stand or two...

in fact...where exactly did u see them stands...lol

They were about 45 minutes past stevens pass. Next time i got over I might have to snag the one that someones using to bait bears off of... fair warning if the person is a user of this site... heres pics from the canyon its located in...

I do leave mine for the hunting season, its a climber and I take it up a couple of days ahead and lock it to the base of the tree. I cover it with branches to hide it. Its hard to see, I knew where it was and have had trouble finding it. I hunt a mile up hill and don't see to many hunters, not to likely that someone will take it. I'm hunting in it most of the day, and take it down once my animal is down. I love my tree stand, its a summit back packer.

i hunt alot of private property so if it is a treestand on one of my private property spots it stays up, or it jmay get moved to another tree, but either way it is up year round. My other tree stands are all brought down, i only have a few astands in public lands spots, but those get taken down after a sucessful hunt or kill has been made in it......

I have only put up a treestand once, it isn't a self climber, but once the season is over the stand is coming down. I work to hard to take the chance and leave it for a year and have it stolen in that time span.
