Just wanted to share some picture from our Wyoming hunt this past Labor Day weekend. My buddy and I shot a couple of pronghorn bucks and each shot 2 extra does for meat. We would dress them out immediately and throw them on ice, the meat is excellent! The freezer is getting full!

Good deal! We leave on either the 7th-8th for wy. Me and my buddy each have 5 tags. I am hoping to wack a few of them with my handgun but have the long range stick just incase. Cant wait

Hey Carp, how did you get 5 tags each i thought you could only apply for two doe tags, and a buck tag. Is it different in some units?

You can 2 more doe pemits if there are any left over from the drawing.

In our unit(114) if you drew a buck tag you can purchase up to 4 extra doe tags! We didn't want to get greedy and we only had so much cooler space.

Do you have have any side views of the 1st buck?
Three of us will be leaving for unit 90 in October. I am assuming you boned out the animals prior to putting the meat in the cooler. What size cooler(s) did you use?

jomoyer2: Didn't see any rattlesnakes, but I'm sure their out there.

shortnround: Here is a view of my buck from the side, it doesn't hook as well as my buddies, but does have great mass. We're kind of newbies to the whole antelope scoring deal, thou I've shot a few in the past this is by far my best. Regardless, neither one of us cares too much on how they score, we just had a great time and fun hunt! We had two large Yeti, a smaller Yeti cooler(mainly for drink, at first) and still had to buy 2 more coolers. We would bone out the meat within an hour or less of when we shot them and also had a gamble hitch system to hang the animals. When you go I suggest you bring a clean tarp with you so when you are quartering out the animals you can put the meat on something clean til you put them in game bags and ice. Also a towel helps. Loper meat is awesome, if you take care of it! I cant wait to go back and get some more. I got one rattle snake last year, seen it on a road.

I've had a lot of people tell me the meats great and I've had people tell me it was so bad there dog wouldn't eat it. I tell you what I think in a couple weeks.

There is 2 things about lope meat that makes it good or bad. 1: what they are eating, if there is no grass and they are living on just sage, yuck! they taste like crap! 2: if you take care of them right. Rip them guts out and get that hide off and on ice or cooled down and they are great to eat!

That is the key, gut and skin ASAP, its warm there, cool them down fast and youll have meat thats better than burger!!

We are leaving late monday night for our first trip ever. From everything I have heard it should be alot of fun and good eating. Ill keep everyone posted with pics if we get them!

Can be ... though they are mostly concentrated around the dens by mid-September out there. Rattlers very rare in WY above 6,000' elevation, nonexistent above 7,000'. For reference, nearly everything east of I-25, and some areas in the Bigorn Basin, are below 6,000'. Most of the rest is above 6,000'.

Interesting on the meat quality.

We have been hunting them for 15 years. We gut them on the spot, and leave the skin on. We put them in the bed of a pickup until all our tags are filled, then haul them to Old's Game processing. We usually have them to the processor by 2pm.

I have never had one of my prongs taste bad. They are all very good-exceptional actually. Perhaps it is what they are grazing on.

we skin ours asap to cool them down, that fur is thick and warm. I had friends that have never eaten wild game before say they liked it better than beef!
