Called in this nice Chocolate
« on: September 17, 2011, 02:18:31 PM »
We spotted this chocolate bear feeding in some wild plum trees this morning. He disappeared into a small brushy draw and we could see the trees shaking where he was feeding but could not see him. Corey brought out his home made predator call and started calling. First thing that happened was 6 mule deer came storming in to see what was making the sound. They got a whiff of the bear and took off. It took a couple minutes before the bear came out of the brushy draw and stood up to locate the sound. One shot through the chest--bear down!!

The father and son in the photo are Corey(dad) and Hunter his son. They were my guests at the Lodge this last week-end. I took them into my bear honey-hole hoping to get Hunter his first bear. Hunter almost had a shot at this bear as he ambled through the meadow headed for the plum trees. When the bear got down into the brushy draw Corey decided to make a move on him. Hunter and I stayed on the hill overlooking the draw in case the bear came back out into the meadow. That is when Corey brought out his call. Hunter has his fathers passion for hunting! Watching his dad call in a bear is a memory he'll have forever.

Awesome story, and great bear!  That young man looks very happy.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.
