Maybe someone answered it but if you have a hunting license with the vehicle permit do you still need discover pass.  I heard everyone will need it next year but not if you have a hunting license currently?
the one we get with hunting/fishing licenses is only for wdfw managed lands and if those lands are in a checkerboard of dnr lands you still could be ticketed....

If there is checkerboarded WDFW/DNR lands look and see if the DNR land is managed under a WDFW Wildlife Area. There are DNR, BLM, and USFS lands that are apart of WDFW Wildlife Areas and in these areas you can use either the Discover Pass or the WDFW Pass.

nope this is the naneum and the sign was real explicit saying your wdfw pass is no good here  :bash: so another area i could sort of access off the list

That's because the Naneum State Forest is DNR, and not a "Wildlife Area." Now if you were on the other side of the valley, the LT Murray Wildlife Area, that is managed by the WDFW, although they do not own every section of land in that wildlife area.

You were in the Naneum State Forest which is a DNR area requiring the Discover Pass. If you are on DNR lands which is apart of the Colockum Wildlife Area you can use either pass.

To see which DNR land is Naneum St Forest and which DNR land is Colockum Wildlife area look at this map: http://wdfw.wa.gov/webmaps/gohunt/wildlife_area_pdf/wla_colockum.pdf

The pink lands that are within that blue line boundary are within the Wildlife Area, outside of the line your on state forest

Thanks for the clarification.  I will be hunting the little naches peaches unit for rifle and dont have the checkerboard map but I assume there is DNR area there and not all wildlife area so I would need this pass if I am in the woods or on trails?  Anyone framiliar with that area and needing the pass?  What a racket just to increase some revenue.  I can understand access to state/federal parks or improved beauocratic lands but for just being out in the woods is irritating.

Someone mark my words that they will start charging a endorsement fee on license to be in possesion of naturaly shedded antlers soon.  I dont think I am giving the WDFW any ideas when it comes to this issue but they are probably trying to figure out the legalities with doing it as we speak!

The Little Naches area is USFS land. You do not need either the WDFW or the Discover Pass. If anything you will need the NW Forest Pass but that is only for developed trailheads.

If the wicked witch of Olympia has her way.. that money will be spent on anything BUT Parks or DNR Land..

Kinda sounds like stealing all of our ATV funds..................and using it for other things it's not supposed to be used for. Typical thieving' gubmint !

Funny you should mention that.
That is exactly what I was told by enforcement. That the "old fees" are being used for "other programs" and the new pass is just a new "land tax".

No you don't have to buy a new permit!! You can call the Dept. of fish & wildlife tell them you got new plates and they will either send you a new permit with your new license plate preprinted or a sticker for your current pass. Not sure though. My uncle went through the same thing and that what he did.

I've (so far) purchased two Discover Passes, but I never go down quietly.  The DNR especially gets an earful.  They could have just required it on Developed sites, like the USFS does, but they chose to expand their definition of "designated" and basically turn this pass into a state land entry fee.  Everyone needs to write a smart, detailed gripe letter on the ills of the Discover Pass and send it to their state Rep before the 2012 legislative session.  Brian Blake, head of Nat Resources, has already vowed to improve the pass...and he never believed it was intended to be used on undeveloped DNR land, although he was a sponsor.  Griping to each other doesn't really help UNLESS we also gripe to the right people, in lots of ways and in BIG NUMBERS.

..............and the thieving' democrats have to put the money back into OUR ATV funds. They cannot use it for anything else from what I understand.
