There is a reason you are supposed to wait 30 minutes after sticking your animal with an arrow. It is to allow you time to relive the event in slow motion, bask in the moment of victory, celebrate in whatever fashion you deem fit and give the animal time to bed down in a peaceful setting, gathering its life force together and readying itself for the quick painless death you have given it. If this what anyone thinks happens your an idiot and a hypocrite! Animals thrash around and tear the woods up when hit, sometimes even moaning and such, some people just can't bear the reality of it so they have to wait till the animal is dead before the track it.
That deer did no doubt die faster than most archery shot critters! The reason this looked so bad is because it was on video! Animals die and suffer when shot with an arrow......thats the truth, don't try to camoflage it or sugar coat it, its just a fact.

Still doesn't surprise me....they are Utards after all.

This is why the anti-hunters and PETA hate us as hunters.  :bash: :bash: :bash:
Hate to tell ya there Mr. Never drank a beer in the woods, Mr. Never spotted an animal from the road, Mr. Never got into the back of the truck for a better vantage point, Mr. Never made a bad shot......Anti Hunters and PETA members hate every hunter equally.....I do agree the video was in very poor taste....but try not to  :puke: BS comments all over it!!! This is not why they hate us......they hate us for all aspects of the hunt....good or bad!
Please PM when you are hunting and in what unit because from some of your posts I don't want to be even near you!!! You seem to stand up for shooting wolves illegally so I don't expect you to say that they are horrible people to post this video on the web. And yes the anti's feed off of videos like this and comments like you make. United we stand Divided we fall. The shot was bad; 65 yards with a bow, the deer was not standing broadside and it was moving!!! HE SHOULDN'T OF TAKEN THE SHOT!!!!!! If you don't feel the shot is right, don't take it, you will get another chance. As I said look at the video the jeep is moving in the first few seconds......

As far as you calling me out as Mr never Drank a beer in the woods, Yeah I have but that is when I was camping and didn't have any type of weapon around!!! Sure I might of gone into town to have a few drinks after hunting but still no weapons.  I don't hunt and drink First because it is illegal and second its a stupid thing to do!!! I would bet money that the cans that I saw in the video were not Red Bulls!!!!!! Of course I see animals from the road all the time, pretty sure everyone has. And why would I ride in the back of the truck for a vantage point....Really!!! Bad shots yeah everyone has a bad day but I don't post it saying yeah that was a great shot I took him down, for gosh sake the deer was wounded it wasn't a great shot!!! And the comment about shooting him in the ass!!!! Yeah those guys are my hero's for taking down a basket buck. They acted like it was the next world record.

Talk about a kettle calling the pot black you post on the wolf thread that we need to voice our opinions about wolves and other issues that come up about hunting...But I guess if my voice is different than yours you can tell me what I posted is wrong and I shouldn't put BS comments all over it!!!!  :bash:

Actually, I did write that this video was in poor taste....I do not agree with posting such a video on the net....But you wrote, "This is why Anti hunters and Peta Hates us"....I was just pointing out that Peta and the antis hate an ethical hunter just as much as an unethical one! As for the part where you say you will drive into town and have a drink or two....but not while hunting.....Are you now saying it is ok to drink and drive??? Isn't a vehicle a weapon???
Oh and last but not least....gotta leave to go hunting....Are you serious if I PM you, you will stay away from where I am hunting??? Do you think that will work for everyone??? Cause if this is all it took to get the woods to myself....I should have spoke up long ago!!! LOL

I guess that depends on your definition of the word perfect...

IMO that was not a "perfect" shot.  It was a spine shot (with not much penetration) that grounded the animal.  It was far from a quick, clean kill.

Being paralyzed and dying are two different things.

Firefighter4607, thanks for pointing out the bow on the dash and the beer can, I did not see that until you pointed it out. You bet your bottom dollar peta will use this and any video like it to push their agenda. Very bad video. I sure wish it was not out their as it sure puts a bad taste in the mouths of all who watch it. Beer in the field during the active pursuit of game is NOT anything ethical hunters should ever do, it is just poor ethics. The way these guys were acting , I feel they were at least buzzed, and lead to a poor decision to take a poor, low percentage shot at 65 yards. Like Firefighter4607 said, have a beer in camp or at the bar with your buddies, that is a better place to be drunk and whoop and holler over a freezer filler basket buck.

Firefighter4607, the morning air is crisp, lets go hunting!!

Nice catch in the photo firefighter. Did not see the can of beer by the fat guy

I have shot many animals with a bow and have never had a heart and lung shot animal paralyzed. As stated he hit high in the spine after missing an easy 40 yd shot. Amazing hunters on here defending this *censored* bag's actions

hhmmm there are a lot of things going on in this video. Seems everyone is quick to judge though. I did notice that the guy standing on the vehicle is not the same guy that went to finish the deer, either is the fat guy that has the can of something ( if you don't know what it is don't make a judgement, there are a lot of mistakes made when people assume ) but I didn't see who took the first shot so I cant really say yes it was the guy standing on the vehicle or the fat dude or the guy going to finish the deer off. I can only say for myself is that I wouldn't have taken the shot, its to far for me and I wouldn't feel comfortable shooting that far. I have talked to a lot of guys that say they have taken 60-65 yard shots though, is that wrong? This is my first year hunting and I did make a bad shot ( she didn't die right away ), does that make me a *censored* bag?  I guess the only thing that really rubs me the wrong way is all the hooting and hollering, but that's not against the law, It's just a personal opinion. I personally wouldn't want to hunt with guys that act like that. But the deer dieing doesn't bother me. I hope they finished him off soon though. which we didn't get to see in the video so I cant really make a judgement on what happend to the deer or if they let it suffer. I would like to tell those guys though if you don't think you can make a clean ethical shot don't take it.

It sickened me to watch that clip.  I have never seen such a lack of respect for a game animal.  What I find more disturbing is that there are people on this site who think this is OK, or who are not at least outraged by the actions of people who will now be viewed publicly as "hunters."  By not condemning the actions of those who tarnish our name, you are adding fuel to the anti's fire.  And remember, it's not the anti's that we need to worry about, it is the vast majority of the non-hunting public who would see this video and be sickened as well.

I agree with much of what you say.  in no way did i enjoy the video.  not a shot i would take, nor encourage.  but not illegal.  you're right about the 80 percent of the population vs. the anti's.  trouble is, once idiots put stuff like this out of the internet, it can be widely viewed and distributed.  that's why i encourage heavy editing or better yet, not youtubing it!

i dont celebrate the death of the animal i hunt, but death is the ultimate outcome of hunting.  no death is pretty, and some are worse than others.  this example was ugly, but in reality, pretty damn quick compared to a gut or flank shot.

as to condemning and being outraged... what will be the result?  are you going to change the way these fellas hunt by chastising them?  or will that just fracture the hunting community further, resulting in a less unified front against the anti's?  you don't agree with their method of hunting.  by the looks of the video, i don't either.  but we'll do better by promoting archery practices such as not taking low percentage shots and not drinking while hunting (if indeed they are).  there will always be people that take low percentage shots, make bad shots, road hunt, drink and hunt, shoot beyond their limits, make mistakes and generally screw up.  until the horn porn crowd and hunting competitions end, people will do whatever it takes to kill the big one, shoot farther for bragging rights and generally make asses of themselves.  but it's not limited to hunting.  there are people in this country now that can't afford health insurance, but by golly, they got themselves a big ol' flat screen, 22" rims on their $40,000 rig and a bag of weed for their night blindness.  poor hunting practices are only a symptom of a much larger problem.   :twocents:

I disagree with much of what you say...  You make it sound as if there is no way to curb this sort of behavior - "it's going to happen whether we like it or not, so as long as they edit the video before posting on youtube, everything will be OK."  B.S.  Obviously these guys don't see the wrong (I'm talking ethically, not legally - there is a difference) in what they've done, otherwise they would not have posted the video.  Without chastising them, they will continue with their public displays of *censored*baggery and we will all suffer because of it.  Condemning them may fracture the hunting community, but sometimes the herd needs to be culled.  I would much rather have a slightly smaller, more unified group of responsible individuals in our community than share the name "hunter" with those shown in this video.
And blaming their lack of respect on the overarching problems of our modern society is a bunch of B.S. too.  It's past time for individuals to take responsibility for their actions.  Maybe when people begin to do so, our societal woes will dissipate.   :twocents:

If you watch the first few seconds of the video the Jeep with the big guy in it is moving it pulls up to the others. They have a bow on top of the window 2 guys standing on it like they are trying to get to the highest point and also the cubby guy has a beer. Please try to tell me that you drive from spot to spot standing in the back of a Jeep with your bow sitting next to you. That is the classic signs of road hunting.
Utah Driving.flv
Also drinking the big guy has what appears to be Keystone Light can also the kid who goes to help the hunter take the final shot has what appears to be Keystone Light.
I can't beleive some of you who are saying the video is alright. He could of waited for a better shot also. This is why the anti-hunters and PETA hate us as hunters.  :bash: :bash: :bash:
WELL ITS Pretty fricken obvisious the big guy does not hike much !!!! :dunno:

Bottom line is videos like that just put another nail in the coffin for us.  Great example of why hunters get a bad rap and unfortunately sometimes deservedly so.
