My archery elk hunt tuns into archery bear hunt
« on: September 19, 2011, 08:12:10 PM »
Got my first bear Sept 14th, spotted it while glassing for elk, stalked into position waited about an hour with him feeding back and forth in front of me before he presented a clear shot. weight was about 225-250lbs, thank god for my son, son inlaw and sons friend Dusty, the pack was much shorter with 4 of us taking turns.

Nicely done, congrats on the bow kill. I've had a pack load that looked a lot like that, it was HEAVY!!!

Nice job!

Not to be a wet blanket but I'm really glad you guys weren't shot packing that dude out like that.  Even though you're bowhunting, lots of guys with modern firearms are out there looking for a bear.

Maybe ... but that could be said of packing any animal out on your back.  :dunno:

I agree, that's why you should have some orange in your pack for the pack out of any game, but I think even more so when you packing a bear out of the woods.  Not trying to ruin his thread or stiffle any happiness.  Just making an observation.

Nice fricken job, that is awesome to get one with your bow. Definitely looks like berry eatin bear country.

I pack a real lightweight mesh hunter orange vest in my pack for several reasons, packing out is one of them, although you'd be pretty dumb to shoot that bear strapped to a pack with 3 guys following just several feet behind, dumber things have happened though...

Nothing turns your knees to jelly more than your first bear with the bow.  Congratulations and well done!
