Bird Hunting Near Wenatchee
« on: September 19, 2011, 11:42:45 PM »
I am moving that way in another month and am wondering what there are for birds in the area.  I have been living in Alaska for 15 years and am wanting to get back into bird hunting.  I grew up with doves, grouse and phesants and would like to find some if I can.

There really isn't much good pheasant hunting in the state anymore. There is one good area left for wild pheasants but I'm not saying where that is. It won't be any good this year anyway because of the poor hatch. And no, it's not anywhere near Wenatchee. What you've got for birds around there, is grouse, chukar, and quail. Plus maybe some waterfowl on the Columbia or over towards Quincy/Moses Lake, if you're into that. If it were me, and I lived in Wenatchee, I'd be going after two species most of the time- blue grouse, and chukar. The rest of the time I'd be going after coyotes/bobcats (if it weren't deer season).

There are a few release sites close by Quincy being one of them. I was up near coulee today and saw a nice rooster walking across the sage brush. You can find good hunting ifnyou lok for it..Moses lake, warden which is mostly private but do your homework and it will pay off. There are a ton of quail around Wenatchee. Also decent big game close by..grouse up near lake Wenatchee is decent too. Good luck don't be discouraged

Thanks for the info. It is mostly what I suspected, chukar and grouse will be a good time and pheasants when/where I can find them.

What about doves, it seems like there should be a good population to be had.
