Fish Storage
« on: September 21, 2011, 10:27:06 PM »
Quick question about fish storage. Went fishing in Cabo last week and boated a tuna and a dorado. I ziplocked it and put it in the freezer and brought it home where it's been in my freezer since then. My question is, should I vacuum pack it now or just try to eat it all in the next couple of weeks (it's kind of a lot of fish).

There's some ice crystals already on some of it, I just want to make sure I don't lose any of it...

Eat it fast - or - dip frozen pieces in saltwater and vac pac, then refreeze.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I agree, eat it fast. I get a lot of fish every year and vacuum pack it immediately and it keeps for about a year. With the ice already forming on the fish, I would eat it up. A few friends can wipe out a tuna on the bbq in no time. If you need some help, I know someone that loves bbq'd tuna! :) The leftover makes the best tuna sandwich you have ever had.

Even if it was properly vac packed fresh i'd try to have it all eaten with in 6months max.  If it's too much to eat, i'll help you out....dorado and tuna = DELICIOUS!!!

Invite us all over for a BBQ and show us pics of the bikinis on the beach!

Give some to friends and eat the rest soon. Agreed, pics of fish and bikinis (in good taste of course) will go a long ways to make us feel better about not getting any fish.

Thanks everyone. I don't have any pictures of fish in bikinis. They're shy like that ;)

Sounds like I'm having mahi mahi all week next week. Here's a couple from the trip:

Nice fish, thanks for not posting pics of yourself in a bikini!
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!
