Tribal Hunting: Bighorn Sheep

Heard a rumor, supposedly verified, that the state is issuing 42 sheep tags to the tribes in umtanum and quilomene. Is there any validity to this?

The state does not issue tags to the tribe. Tribal fish and game department issues tags to the tribe.

42 freaking tags?
? Your kidding right? We normal (follow the rules) hunters get how many?
More I am an indian, living on the res., I get whatever the freak I want...... screw the wildlife and any management of said wildlife.

I heard this a while back on another website and asked Plateau NDN in p.m.
I deleted the P.M., but from what I recall, he said: last year was the first year and they gave 10 tags and of those 6 to 7 were filled. They were targeting Sheep on the reservation. This year they gave 25 tags and again were encouraging those tag holders to stay on the reservation as that is where the population needed to be thinned. I cc'd him a copy of this thread, so he could verify the information I posted.

Yes this is true. I heard it with my own ears at the meeting a couple weeks ago with the Yakamas and Muckleshoots. They are getting 25 ram tags and 17 ewe tags. The representitve from the Yakamas said "the reason for the extra tags is becuase there is a state wide over abundance of sheep"

Well I think there is an over abundance of tribal hunters.....
Once again, we sit back and take the politically correct approach, and get kicked square in the sack! So, how many more kicks can everyone take?
