Work got in the way of Elk hunting
« on: September 26, 2011, 10:40:11 PM »
Ok, I have spent the last two years hunting eastern WA. This year I just couldn't get time off so I decided to try something closer to home. Having done no scouting, I have little to draw from. I am looking at trying out GMU 520 and have read a few comments from folks on here from last year. I was thinking of looking up near Riffe Lake there seems to be Forrest Roads  just south of there, I am a bow hunter, never harvested an Elk and would be star struck even with a cow. Anyone got any pointers, is the theft issue as prominent as it use to be, are there still crowds? Please help a new to western WA hunter. And thank you.

Sounds like a good plan. As soon as I tell you I've never had a problem with theft, which i haven't, you'll get stuff stolen. Use your best judgement and welcome to the forum.

Chances are, people will be reluctant to give you too much info as a first time poster. Feel free to share your knowledge and stories with us. Comment on hot threads and let us know how you feel about things. As folks in here get to know you, you'll be surprised how much info will be passed back and forth. Again, welcome.

Hunt the timber near bedding water and feed areas where your sure elk are actively working into ther clearcuts at night.
Theft issue
Leave nothing of value in your truck. period

:yeah: I have to agree, I know lots of hunters leave their wallets in the glove box, any only to have kids or tweekers break into your rig to clean you out.  (yeah it happened to me, ONCE). I've lost a Taurus .357 that way.
