I wouldn't say it's the best tag in the state, but it depends on what your looking for in a hunt. If killing a "Big" bull is your mission don't waste the points. A bull breaking 3 bills is exceedingly rare and honestly more likely to come off the jungle down lower IMO. But older age class, good density, and a relatively small area make it a great draw for an awesome experience with really good odds of connecting on a nice bull.
The country is rugged, but not real big. Scouting it is pretty convenient. BUT Be prepared for the weather, if it's nasty wet, or snow areas of the unit are EXTREMELY dangerous especially off the main trail. I personally recommend some sort of traction device, if chance of weather going to garbage. And make sure to do some research on all of the restrictions. Although not terrible they can impact your hunt. The main access is MT. Margaret trail head and Coldwater. Using watercraft will save some mileage if hunting that side, but non gas powered only on the lake. No stock allowed in the backcountry, and camping restricted to designated sites. That time frame I have had no problem reserving.
I really enjoy the area and know it pretty good, I have never elk hunted it personally but have assisted other tag holders and it was well worth the draw imo.
