GMU 520 Question
« on: September 19, 2011, 08:09:06 AM »
From my understanding St. Helens tree farm is left as you drive down the Winston Creek road. What area is to the right? That is not tree farm area correct?

go on google earth or get a map. google earth will help narrow it down as it has the road names on it.

It would be the W 2000 Road. I am new to the area and have a map of the GMU I am hunting. I only went on the tree farm since I knew the area was open. I just saw the roads going to the right and some trucks going up that way and was curious.

That would be state DNR land. But if you go in a couple miles you could end up on Weyerhaeuser. There is also state land on the left side of Winston Creek road as you're going in.

Maybe I am buying the wrong map. I bought one at Sportmans for the 520 area. These are horrible maps in my opinion and do not really give a good representation of the area. I miss Montana....

I would miss Montana too. If that's what you're used to, you may want to forego elk hunting in this state. Deer hunting can be ok, but elk is often more trouble than it's worth, IMO.
