New toy

Well after loitering for a long time and soaking in the stories I finally bit the bullet (as it were) and purchased a bow. Found a Hoyt Proforce Extreme on ebay for a good buy. When I opened the box it was all in pieces and looked sad with a broken string. Brought it down to the boys at Nock Point and they fix it all up, new strings, new sights, string guard, the works. Could not be more excited. The bow feels good and its only a matter of time before the arrows start hitting paper at the range.

Have always enjoyed the outdoors. When I was a kid always had dirty feet and my parents could never find me because I was always in the green belt playing in the woods. Took up a love of hiking and can't stop fishing to save my life so this is the natural progression. Don't know much at all but eager to learn. Hoping by asking careful questions and reading a lot that there will be some wisdom to learn. Maybe if I'm lucky someone would be willing to have an extra pair of legs to help carry stuff and maybe teach a thing or two. Got a lot of shooting to do this winter in order to be ready by next year. Want to make sure to be able to hit the target instinctively.

Can't wait till this time next year!!!

Congrats Kingpuck...In the same spot as you, but I haven't bought my bow yet.  Took my brother, non-hunter, out this last weekend to camp and watch the bulls rut and he came away wanting to learn archery.  I cannot wait to begin 

Like you, have a lot to learn ourselves...but really looking forward to it.

welcome to the site and to archery it can be alot of fun. there is a lot of wisdom on this site and many people willing to help teach. the only advise i can really give is alot of practice

Gotta say I look at the bow with longing every night. Get home from work and the gym and hit the books to study for a professional certification. After January I'm going to be going to the range a couple of nights a week to practice and ensure that my technique is sound. Not planning on putting in for a tag until I'm confident that at 30-40 yards I could put an arrow on vital organs and bring the animal to a quick/clean end. Hunting isn't just about the killing for me. It's about the experience and the mutual respect for the animal and what they're loss provides me and those I love.

Yep, I use to have one of those Hoyts, I had an overdraw on it so I could shoot shorter lighter aluminum arrows to gain some speed.Killed a few animals with it.

Went to Cabelas this weekend and got the trigger, arrows, and quiver for the bow. Got the arrows cut and on the 3rd shot ever with the bow hit dead center bullseye. Couldn't believe it. What an experience. This is so addicting and so much fun!

Yeah budy! That bow reminds me of my Hoyt Raider. I could shoot the crap outa that thing.

Shooting bow is super addictive and the great part is you can nearly shoot it anywhere! I live in town, and not in the best neighborhood. People look at me funny while I'm standing next to the road shooting into my garage. I think it works to my advantage, "don't go into that dudes house or he'll stick you with a arrow!"

I commend you for waiting until next year for hunting.  Most people buy one a couple weeks before season and hit the woods.

Outstanding! I have only been into archery for a short amount of time but once it gets into your blood it's there forever.
