A Shout out for Support from HuntWa members
« on: September 29, 2011, 12:47:58 PM »
HuntWa has 8,941 members. We need your support. This isn't exclusive to WFW. It is about all Hunters everywhere and the impact that WDFW' proposed wolf managent plan will have on our existing prey population. There is a poll at http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,83922.0.html,  the poll has been viewed 407 times, there has been 23 replies and only 77 votes. I would have expected at least 407 votes..  :dunno: if you viewed it why not click a button and vote.

Please return to or go to:http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,83922.0.html and click a button to vote. You don't have to post or reply.

This poll and comments will be sent to the Wildlife Commission to view and read. The Commission recognizes HuntWa as a place to watch and with people that represent hunting across the State. Your Vote can make a difference.

Hunt-WA is pushing 9k members. Well beyond the 6k mark.
More votes please!!!

i am really suprised by the # of votes. not so much on the reply posts but i would think everyone would vote. maybe this thread or the actual pole needs to be bumped every hour to catch those just passing through? or to stress the importance of the topic.

What if I were to vote "Strongly Yes"?  Do you still want me to vote?   :dunno:     :chuckle:

(not saying I would, but just sayin')  ;)

Actually at this point I would probably vote "not sure".

Bobcat, we just want all of our friends associates, hunting partners, etc. to vote their point of view. Unless you post your vote, nobody will know how anyone voted. Vote your Heart and or your Gut whichever leads you.

And for sure if you vote for wolves and have a compelling reason, post it...no one will flame you.

Most of us know that we don't have a decision on whether we have wolves or not. We do however with a large enough voice have have some affect on the numbers and how the numbers are managed.

Just vote, get the numbers way up there.....

I feel like I need to study up more on the subject, and read and fully understand the wolf plan, before I can say I'm for, or against it. As I've said, I'm against wolves entirely- I don't want any in this state. But they're here and they're increasing, there's no changing that. It could be that 15 BP's is a good compromise. What if the other option was 30 BP's? Then we'd all be thinking 15 is a great number. I was at a WDFW meeting a couple months ago and the wolf lovers that provided comments at that meeting all complained that 15 BP's was not enough. They also didn't like that the WDFW had it written into the plan that ranchers could protect their livestock by killing wolves. So what I'm thinking is that while this plan may not be ideal, it could be better than the alternative.

The point of a management plan should be to determine what is the minimum sustainable number of wolves before they could be delisted and management can start.  Remember that 15 pairs (for 3 years) is the minimum number before delisting can happen and management can begin.  It is not the maximum number of wolves we will have or even the target number.   So we very well could end up with 30 pairs (or more after all the lawsuits actually let management begin).  And with budget cuts and being unable to use steel traps we have very little tools to keep them under control.

Another thing that keeps knawing at me is thier count & methods of verifing these packs & breeding pairs. With all the wilderness (ect..) in this state that gets little to no human traffic how do they know the real #s.
People have said for years they've seen or heard them, or seen tracks. Never taken seariously by anyone including myself untill recently. (Sounds like alien incounters or the foot(which is real))
Anyway how do they know? I would guess there are more here than they think or can" VARIFY "
I guess my point is i would fight for the lowest # to delist as possable because i'm sure there are way more than thier #s show.
How many cougars have people seen in thier life time in the woods? Bears? We all know they are there but how many have actually had an encounter ?

Well after my vote it looks like the strongly disagree's have it. Come on people vote and lets send some e-mails into the WDFW reguarding the wolves. This is the hunting future of washington state we are talking about. Being lazy just isn't going to cut it unless you really don't care. If you are unsure how to send the e-mail just ask.

For those of you that haven't read or seen the "FINAL RECOMMENDED WOLF CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR WASHINGTON" click on the link and have it... it is long and some of it is boring. You could focus on Chapter 3 as many of our current discussions are covered there.
Chapter 4 is about Wolf-Livestock Conflicts and Chapter 5 is about Wolf-Ungulate Interactions.... It is a tedious read but very worthwhile.

On top of that, it is really about numbers. It is extremely more convincing if 4000 people voted and yes and no were closer. The strength is in numbers and large numbers indicate solidarity and purpose. Keep on voting folks.

Is it possible to change my vote?  I voted not sure when I first saw this but after thinking about it I would vote no as I feel that 15bps is too many wolves and maybe an unattainable goal for WA which would keep wolves listed.

I don't know if you can change your vote, but you just convinced me to vote "hell no"!  (is that an option?)

The key word I think is "unattainable". By the time we've got 15 breeding pairs, we'll have a thousand wolves and very few deer and elk left. Not to mention moose and bighorn sheep.

Oh man, I am slipping... I meant to include a link to join WFW. I am looking at and reading a ton of good posts that contain good thought and relevance to the subject at hand. We need your support and wisdom as a WFW member. It is free, you aren't obligated for anything but helping us by adding numbered strength and sharing your thoughts in discussion. And it's still free http://www.washingtonforwildlife.org/cgi-bin/oc/register.cgi
