Probably stupid question
« on: September 29, 2011, 08:58:57 PM »
Hey I am 99% sure I know the answer but I believe I saw it somewhere else on the site but here goes... SO a legal 3pt white tail buck Has to have 3 points coming off of the main beam 1in NOT including the main beam correct? So technically would look like  4 pts? Sorry if this post is confusing or If i sound like a complete idiot but just need a little clarification.

My favorite teacher always said, "There are no stupid questions, only stupid people".   :chuckle:

If I'm correct, 3pts is 3pts is 3pts, as in this is a 3 point buck.

If the eye-gaurds are longer than an inch as far as the state regs are concerned that is a 4 point buck!!
Units 121 and 117 went 4 point minimum this year for whitetail and that buck in your picture would be a legal "4 point!

When in doubt always pull out the regs; hearsay doesn't stand up too well in court or with a wdfw officer.

3 Point Minimum:
A legal deer taken in these GMUs must have at least 3 antler points on one side. A 3x3, 3x2, or 3x1
are legal in a 3 pt. min. unit. Antler points must be at least one inch long including eye guards.

So the main beam is counted as a point to answer your question. Which if I am seeing the picture correctly above, as far as the state is concerned, that buck would be a 4-point since it appears to have eye guards as well as 3 points per side. Which always brings up a huge discussion on whether to count eye guards as points when describing your deer. The state does!  :chuckle:

Antler Point-Deer: A projection off any part of the antler measuring at least one (1) inch in length measured from the longest side. Eye guards are antler points if they are at least one inch long.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.
