A good gunsmith could do just about anything. However the cost of that kind of modification would most assuradly run more than the price of a savage. I'd just live with it or sell the rifle and get something you like more.

What don't you like about the built in mag?  Some hunters think that is a preferable design, especially for a rifle destined to use for dangerous game?

i dont really like that it only holds two in the clip and one in the chamber i would rather it hold 3 or 4 in the clip

I can understand that completely, but with a 300 wsm I doubt you will ever need a follow up shot much less 4 total available rounds. Maybe if your in Alaska hunting Grizzly, but other than that anything more than one with a 300 wsm is just convenience for the range.

When you take the rifle out of the stock, does the mag stay with the stock or with the gun? If it stays with the stock, you can simply pick up a newer style factory stock which uses the new detachable magazine and your gun will bolt right in. It shouldn't be too difficult to find one.

If the magazine box stays with the rifle, it may not be cost effective to convert it to use a detachable mag.

The convenience of emptying the rifle with a detachable is great.  I have both and detachable is darn nice.  Then again I am in and out of the truck alot.
It's a TIKKA thing..., you may not understand.

That's for the Rem 700.

Sharp Shooter Supply makes one which will work with any Savage, but you would need to either have your stock modified or buy a new stock.

The magazine frame is $150, a 5 round mag is $63, and inletting your stock will cost another $50.

call savage to find out how much a factory bottom metal is and the magazine, you will need screws also and maybe a trigger guard. Then call boyds or stockys and tell them what you have and that you need a stock. when you call savage they will ask for the serial number, that will tell you everything you need about what parts you will buy. whether it is a center feed or a staggered feed.
you could call and ask sharp shooters supply how long it will take, and it could take a LONG while this time of year. They list the service for inletting for $50, it might be a good time to get that Savage accurized, they do awesome work but it takes awhile.

If you have a synthetic stock you will have to get a wood or laminate.
Never, ever let Creed hold you baby, it will ruin it and you will have to get another.

:yeah: When I got my Savage 116 300WM I had a choice between getting a detachable mag and no muzzle break or a muzzle break and a hinged floor plate or internal mag.  No question I picked the detachable mag.  when you constantly have to unload the rifle getting in the truck, which would you rather do: open the bolt drop the mag, Open the bolt and drop the floor plate then pick up all your rounds out of the dirt, or throw the bolt 3-4 times?  door number one please.  Ding ding ding.  I'd trade that one in for a detachable mag model myself but that is without any sentiment attached to the thing.  I can understand sentiment.
