Nuther Barnes Success
« on: September 30, 2011, 09:34:13 AM »
So, I became a Barnes fan about 10 years ago and have killed some elk and deer with them almost every year for a while now. Seems like there's always someone talking trash about them.

This performance I'll describe is what I've had with every hit on an animal so far... I'd say 14-15 critters.

The moose I shot this year (in the Other Big Game section, "Hornseekers Moose Adventures" or something like that)... took two of these through the lungs, they both exited. He was dead on his feet, but I went ahead and threw one more at his shoulder, broadside. It went through both shoulders and sat against the far hide. Same thing with my elk last year and several elk and a few deer (as far as recoveries of bullets go)...

Its a 168 Grain T TSX in front of 60 grains of H4831 outta my A-Bolt 30-06...

Im giving the hornady 80 gmx a try this year for deer, since I cant get my hands on any accubonds for the .243. Ive looked long and hard at the barnes just couldnt justify the price when the accubond has treated me so well out of the .338.

They do make a very sturdy and dependable bullet I have killed a couple elk and a bear with them. I just wish the BC was better.

Demontang. I use 95 grain b tip in my 243 over imr 4350 and it shoots real well and flat hammers deer.

@bullblaster Thats what I had last year shot a coyote with it and it was flat nasty, figured it would tear a deer up the same way. :dunno:

You should contact barnes and email them the pic. They usually like to see the end results and get feedback.

That TTSX looks pretty good to me. That bullet pealed back nicely and appears to be all there. Looks like a real winner for large animals.

I agree, I can't say enough good things about the performance I've seen from Barnes bullets.

I have had good luck too. All bullets seem to kill, but they are SOOOOO much easier to load then the xlc and get good velos and accuracy. I use them in all my over 3000 fps guns.
