Over dogged and under gunned!
« on: October 02, 2011, 04:47:12 PM »
Spent the day chasing quail around Royal City today.  Was pretty warm out and the dogs were feeling it later in the afternoon.  Both ended up taking a dip in the cannel and scared the crap out of me as it was fast moving with slick sides.  Made for a few tense moments till I was able to snatch them out.

Got into several coveys but they were extremely jumpy and would not hold.  I hunted both dogs at the same time but was the only gun.  Ended the day with half a limit and two rabbits.  Nothing worthy of pics.

Thrilled about the early season bird numbers.  Busted up two roosters and two hens.    Need to find a couple more willing gunners to surround these wiley little rockets.

I hunted fairly close to you and saw 4 coveys in 2.5 hrs of hunting. One covey had at least 30 birds in it. I was happy with the quail numbers I saw , I shot well today and took it easy on the dog for the first time out this season.

Anytime you are looking for another gun let me know. I take a lot of grouse on the wing over a dog, but have never hunted quail or pheasant and would love to go.

I'd be in. I love shooting quail. I have a pretty nice 1 yr old lab that got his first couple times in the field this year with doves and did a very nice job. Do you have pointers, or flushers? What breed? I live in Spokane.

I live in cashmere and hunt quail and pheasant quite a bit in the basin. I have a three year old. That's him in my avatar. I would like to help out.

Anybody heading out for the last weekend of birds?  Would like to find a couple guys and dogs to hunt the desert / Basin area Saturday and Sunday.  PM me if your heading that way and interested.

We will be out in central WA, we were out last weekend for the first time in 7 weeks. Birds are still out there, just have to put the miles on to find them :)
