Have bear - need hunter
« on: October 02, 2011, 08:30:55 PM »
I have a black bear on the property .... need it gone....Department of wildlife cant get it because it is not in my garbage, and it won't wander into their truck, but it is living in the front yard and I am tired of the bear and the dog getting into each other.

Prefer archery.
Location Kingston WA
You must take it out....don't need more predators.
Estimate 2-3 yrs old.

I've got a little pop up blind I could set up. How close are you to the neighbors? Is the beast showing up regularly? I'd not want a hit bear running around a neighborhood.

on 2.5 acres.  Bear moves between the stream in back and the front corner of property.  Neighbors nearby on front.... not so on back.  Bear is here most days.  seems to have made a home / den near the driveway.

How much property do you have.
Kitsap, especially the north end, is rife with firearms restrictions zones.

I may have a friend that would be interested, would use a bow most likely, unless you have 5 acres or more, then could use a shotgun.

Hell, haven't gone after/killed one in a few years. Might want it myself. ;)

Just saw your last reply.
2.5 acres - no go for shotgun.

Just a reminder to anyone who shoots it. Please take care that neighboring children and pets are inside. Fataly hit bears almost always go at least 50 yards if not more. Don't need the bear attacking someone or something while running scared.

On another note, it is very suprising that your dog isn't driving the bear off. Bears typically are not fond of dogs AT ALL! Must be a good food source near by for it to stick around with a dog pestering it. However, you have come to the right place for help if WDFW won't help. All of the members I have ever met in this forum are good responsible ethical hunters. They will do a good job for you.

2.5 acres? firearms restrictions? this sounds like a potential public / hunters - relations disaster.
my buddy arrowed a deer on a five acre parcel and it sprinted through no less than EIGHT neighbor's yards before expiring. granted they were small yards but it was shot through the lungs. he did the right thing and contacted the homeowners instead of trespassing. they were grudgingly  cooperative, but very far from thrilled that this complete stranger was responsible for all the blood in their back yards.

use discretion and good judgement in this situation. this bear sounds like more trouble than its worth, once you pull the trigger anything can happen. :twocents:

Ya no kidding. Where is WDFW when the public needs them???? They could come out, tranq. the bear, cage it up and ship it out of there. I guess they are only interested writing violations these days to keep their budget inflated nicely instead of public service and safety.

Those that say this could be a public relations nightmare could be right. I say someone go out and coach the homeowner on what to do. Help him get his hunting license, and let him fire the fatal shot himself while the seasoned hunter stands by coaching.
