3nails, the recoil pad isn't always enough.  If you shoot a light rifle with a large case and a long barrel, it isn't necessarily the backward push anymore, but the 'jump'/muzzleflip.  They are also good for protecting optics.  The one I use has a 57% recoil reduction.

Thanks.
I can watch the target in the scope and never lose sight of it. Light rifle, hot hand loads, etc. The brake helps. I probably would not have added one, but there was already one there when I bought the rifle. I did change it out for a nicer one with cleaner gunsmith work.

So I've never done any research on muzzle breaks. Do they reduce recoil? If so were they made for women and children? People with frail builds? Office workers? Won't a "sissy" pad do the same thing?

blah blah blah nobody asked you. Were you at kenmore whining today?
:chuckle: No, I wasn't. I shouldn't joke because I'll probably need one as well one day when I can't sleep through the whole night without getting up to go pee.  :chuckle:

The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Some people should take up bow hunting.... :chuckle:
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

I prefer not to shoot next to someone using a brake myself, pretty tough to concentrate with the guy next to you blowing your hat off with his SIDEWAYS directed muzzle blast.

Heck, this makes me want to get one now, thanks. I always like impressing folks with a good muzzle blast.  :chuckle:

The looks and whining of other people is half the fun of taking a braked rifle to.the range. I like the blast.  :chuckle:

The thing that amazed me was the guys shooting the AR's and the 10/22's just raining emptys on the folks next to them. Loading mags underneath giant signs that say "Load one round at a time" then just banging away slinging brass all over the guy sitting next to them.

It was a great day at the range. I figure the anti-muzzle blast crowd would have appreciated a little blast. It was muggy under that cover. A little breeze seemed to help.

I hate that rule they have there. Keeps me from taking my 10/22 there. Usually the rangemaster is very controlling...that was not the case yesterday and there was even 2 rangemasters working yesterday.
