@Jackelope, you can load up to 10 rounds into a 22 without running afoul of kenmore's rules. For those that don't get the gripe with the brakes: a guy firing a braked rifle next to you is about the same as firing an UNBRAKED rifle about 5 feet behind you and five feet to either side.

I don't even like to shoot next to a guy with a braked PISTOL! It sounds like the damn thing is pointed right at you.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

I dont get why people just dont drive out in the woods and find a good backstop to shoot privately.. Thats what I do most of the time. Last time I went to the range I came home looking like I had a hickie because the guy to the left of me got me with some .223 brass.. It was so hot it actually stuck to my neck I thought I got stung by a bee, and had to peel it off.. Big nasty blister. At least he let me shoot his nice Kimber 1911..  :) But yeah I only go to the range when I want to see how tight of a group I can shoot from a bench, or shoot skeet.. I like my privacy and the freedom to empty mags at whatever rate of fire I choose.

I usually get looks and overhear comments when I'm shooting my AR with a Surefire brake (and M193).  I just smile.   :chuckle:  Hey, it's a gun range that allows all calibers and they do make a boom.  I can understand the guy next to me trying to concentrate (been there myself), so I make some effort to time my shots with respect to those near by.

I'm not doubting or questioning you, but what's the point of all the big signs saying "Load One Round at a Time"?? I've even seen the usual rangemaster guy reprimand a guy for shooting more than one at a time in the mag.

I've been waiting for someone to complain about the brake I guess. I was also sitting in the last bench next to the wall for those that are familiar with the layout of that place. I guess sitting with a very solid wall a foot and a half to the right of the brake didn't help either. I usually sit next to someone else shooting a brake'd rifle if there is anyone so as to "blend in" a little but with the crowd yesterday, maybe I shoulda stayed home.

Muzzle blast, hot brass down your shirt....it just doesn't get any better  :chuckle:  a day at the range....actually sounds real good right now

Ah, yes. Nothing like watching someone do the hot brass dance.   :chuckle:

I don't go out in the woods to shoot this time of year out of respect for the folks that might probably be out there hunting.  I've shot enough this year that I probably didn't "need" to go to the range, but had some free time and never really mind going shooting....anyway, thats my story.

I always pre warn people about the brake on my rifle also try to stay far enough away that it doesn't bother as bad if I can help it. I don't shoot the public range so I really dont run into too many problems. I've had people look at me funny when I shoot it but never complain but I wouldn't really care after all the precations I take and since we're at a rifle range where things do go BOOM!
Shut up and Hunt!

Im planning to get one of those SSAR-15 buttstocks to allow shoulder fired controllable bump firing.. I know they wont like that at the range.. Especially in a carbine.. So Ill be out in the woods with that lol.

I prefer to go to the woods now.  Crazy range rules, range costs, waiting in line to shoot, people muzzling people everywhere, people running down to get a target while the range is still 'hot', people trying to talk to you and wanting to play with your guns, and my new favorite--all the zombie talk (Die Zombie, Take That Zombie).  The woods are closer for me too now.

I take a quick look to see that everyone has ear protection on before shooting. Other than that they can deal with it. I pay to use the range too. Rifles are loud. They knew that coming to the range. I will let the tables next to me know beforehand though. So targets and whatever else doesn't go flying. Haha. I like my brake.

Its much more fun sitting next to the guy with a smokepole having that nice rotten egg smelling smoke in your face.
The way I see it go early in the season like July and on a weekday or expect crowds and deal with it.

For centerfire rifles they are usually real nazi's about the one round at a time thing but it states in their rules that 22 gets an exemption and can load 5 (either it got changed or I remembered it wrong) but they are still supposed to keep the rate of fire down. I don't shoot there very often as I find their benches horrifically uncomfortable  (too short for me) and get tired of people pelting me with brass or shooting right next to me with a brake.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

LOL - One year at the Range there was about 1 1/2 foot of snow on the roof - Every time I shot the .338 the snow would just fly off the roof - People couldn't believe it !
