The copalis unit has quite a few bears. I saw one that went 7' 4" at my taxidermist. I had no idea they got that big here. I haven never hunted it so can't tell you much more, but my friend killed a big one there as well, dumb luck it was just standing in the road up one of the many gates in the area.

Good luck post pics of it when you kill him

Start exploring the North River GMU.  There is a few in there.  John's river is a good area to access.  Also the estuarries of elk river are worth a look.   Smith Creek and North River is not a bad choice either.

Theres been a lot of people up the smith north river with muz loaded elk going on. if you have a shotgun take a walk out the ranch its shotgun bow black powder only. "its the gate next to true value at the Y in westport".

Theres been a lot of people up the smith north river with muz loaded elk going on.

There is no early muzzleloader elk season in that unit. The closest GMU open would be 672 (Fall River).

If you see people hunting elk (or deer) in the North River unit, call 911, or the poaching hotline (1-877-WDFW-TIP)

There USED to be a early muzzleloader season in North River. Not anymore. Hasn't been for a couple of years now.
