Well Charlie, I almost had to cancel my bobcat and go with an elk instead. Missed a big 5x6 bull last night at 50yards. I can hit a dang bobcat but not a freaking elk!  :bash:

So having shot a bobcat recently I am curious, what makes cats so much harder to mount then other animals? From the taxidermists point of view......

I'm not a taxidermist, but IMO its ALL about the face. You don't get the face right, the rest of the cat can be world class, and it'll still look goofy.

I've seen some terrible bears as well.
I am not a taxidermist either, but agree it is all about the face, i had 2 bobcats done by the same taxi at the same time, one a rug with open mouth and it looks really good, the other i had him do a pedestal half body mount, that one looks bad, face is not correct and the eyes, well lets just say he rides the short bus.
Both cats were done at the same time, and how he got one correct and the other wrong i don't know, but he will not do anymore for me. I've passed taking 3 other cats since but seeing charlies work i wont pass anymore and i will take them to him..
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Bummer man, that sucks . Must have been elk feever  :chuckle:

I can say that not all bobcat forms are created equal . From my experiance there are only a few sculpters I will use any more for the heads. I had a couple bobcats I wasnt real pleased with and have leaned my lesson  :chuckle: They turned out OK but not as good as I would like. I got a couple I will be working on shortly that are on forms I like to use. Both are descending cats. I'll post pictures as I start them . One is going to get cut into peices becasue it is a pretty smallish cat and the forms only get so close for size.

So here is a picture of the cat. Im not to sure about the size. It kinda looks like a smaller one to me. Seems smaller then the big eastern male my dad got a few years ago.
