Be sure you have a good spotting scope. Get over there a few days before the season starts and spend some time searching out good vantage points to spot deer from, and try to find a buck worth taking on the first day. Mark all such spots with your GPS unit. I've only hunted pheasants over there, but I've heard it can be a tough hunt. I wouldn't expect to kill a buck on the first day. Plan on at least week. It's a once in a lifetime hunt, you don't want it over in one day.

In my opinion, no the quality is not down.  You have towork for it. If you do, you should be well rewarded. This unit has a lot of bucks.

thats a great area, deer eat in the neighboring fields and therefore taste great! wa over there for a late hunt a couple years ago and saw 28 deer in a 3day wknd with one that had to be 30" spread.

That's a killer area. got two buddies that live there and they get some monsters. one had the late tag last year and got a 34" buck and it wasn't even the one he was after. the big boys hang in the corn fields until the rut and come out strictly at night until later in the year. there is one monster still around bit you will have to find him. good luck to you guys and hope your son gets a.deer

whuppinstick,

Yes I figured someone would find an issue with the way I worded that. Was just sort of rambling with my thoughts on the subject. Don't take it too literally. What I meant is I wouldn't want to take an "ok" buck on the first day, if there are better bucks to be had. I would rather spend a week before the season looking over bucks so that I knew the true potential of the unit before the season even started. In that case I would feel comfortable taking a buck on the first day of the season, knowing that I wasn't "wasting" the tag.

West of Pier 4 Resort and south of I-90 near the fishing access area. Saw some big boys in there last year. Good luck. Here's one of the 4 I saw in that area.

I have put in for years but have never drawn a tag.  Good luck on your hunt.  Heck if I was drawn I would have taken at least 4 scouting trips by now.  I have been called anal but that is OK!!!

Good luck on taking a good buck that tag is a dandy.
