153.5" high hunt buck
« on: October 04, 2011, 01:06:01 PM »
Had some success on the high hunt this year. After a long hike we had almost made it to were we wanted to camp when the fog lifted and we spotted two shooter bucks across a drainage. we dumped off some of our camping stuff to lighten the load a bit and headed for the deer. with the nasty weather/rain blowing in and out we knew we had to make it happen pretty quick  or we might not get a chance. I laid on my pack and shot this buck in his bed at about 225, he stood up, took a few steps and started tumbling down the hill. thought for sure he was going to bust a few points off but he didn't. We boned and packed this buck out that night, needless to say we were beat. went back to the area a few days later to try and get my buddy a buck,  and would have but he had some rifle issues. seen allot of cool country and some good animals this year, cant wait till next...I rough scored him at 153.5", took him down to charlie to be mounted......Lewy

Congrats on a nice buck Lewy!! I would have guessed he would score in the 160 catagory but don't know or can tell the spread. Way to go!!

not gunna lie, the pack out is hell :chuckle:..we probably should have stayed the night and done it in the daylight on a little fresher legs but it was cooling off and our gear was pretty wet so hiking actually sounded pretty good! we had a few good tumbles coming down, you defanitally need to pick every step on a backcountry hunt so you dont end up in a real bad situation. as bad as it sounds, we were making plans to be back in there the following weekend as soon as we got back to the truck :chuckle:
