any one spend much time deer hunting in the wenaha area?  we are going there for rifle deer

i only need to see 1 deer..haha .   we are going to hike in at a trailhead and start learning some areas.  i dont really care about the deer hunting, its just a excuse to get into the area some and get ready for my elk hunt there in the next few years.  i dont want to be that guy who draws a primo tag then join the forum and ask where to hunt elk in the blues  with my first post.

I have been there on spring bear hunts and saw literally hundreds of deer.  But they were still yarded up.  Take those deer and distribute them across that massive country and we did not think that it was a deer destination.  Add to that the wolves and   But I agree that if you can find them it would likely be a dandy.

And the others are right that country is wicked steep.

I have spent a lot of time in the area and never did see a big buck.  There are not a whole lot of deer, but you will not see a whole lot of orange in there either, so that will be nice.  I should mention though, I have found a couple sheds in the area that anybody here would consider big, so they are there.  You have a better chance of seeing a cougar, bear, or wolf than a big buck, so take you predator tags with you.  It is some of the neatest area I have ever been in.

No deer.  Sounds like a perfect spot for rifle deer.

I keep hearing how steep it is on here.  Is it as steep as the Pasayten?

Id say steeper, but not as tall.  Pick the wrong way up a drainage and you could be in for it.  I did that once.  What could have taken 30 minutes took 4 hours..  still did not see a bear...

That is exactly how I would explain it. Very steep but lots of drainages are close together and not real tall. Super Steep and rugged though.
