Idaho Moose Hunt was exciting
« on: October 05, 2011, 09:40:51 AM »
Just got home from our Idaho moose hunt and it turned out to be a great hunt but exciting. We saw elk and one was really big well into the 300 class and one black bear but the weather was really warm  and we were seeing moose only in the early morning . Trying to get stuff unpacked and meat to be delt with will send pictures and story when I can find my camera but had a great time hunting with my son and grandson.

Just finished the meat cutting and taking the meat to the butcher for hamburger and down to the taxidermist. Man just shooting then what comes after takes some work and some help. The first couple days of our hunt it was about 75 degress and we only saw a few moose. We turned down a bull that was 40 something wide with double brows the first day and the next couple days wondered if we had made a big mistake as nothing was moving. Yesterday it rained and we found a little water hole with 3 different trails coming into it with lots of fresh trakes. We set up and called and a small bull came out to see what was up then we heard another bigger sounding one on the hill behind us. The fog set in and cow calling was only getting answers so we tried a bull call and thats when things got exciting, We were on a little 4 wheeler trail that was solid rock and steep when we heard a loud call and the sound of something coming full speed down the trail. You could only see about 30 yards up the trail in the fog but it sounded like a whole herd of horses coming and it felt like you could feel the ground shakeing. Out of the fog came two cowes hho saw us and cut up the hill and right behind them you could see paddles coming in the fog right down the trail. He came out of the fog at 25 yards and my son shot hiting him in the chest he stumbled but kept coming right at us thats when my grandson and friend started running down the trail hollering shoot shoot. The next shot he stumbled again but still has his head down and I mean really coming my boy shot again and he went down at 15 feet on the trail then flipped over and rolled down the hill about 30 feet. Man we were shaking in our boots I know that thing had us in his sights and bad on his mind. We were able to pull him up onto the road to cape and quarter him with 2 4 wheelers one that had a winch. We may have not got the biggest but we think it was the baddest.
